Thanks for being the best parents a child could ever want.

Dear Mom and Dad

10 things I want to thank my parents for...

1. Thanks for giving me a brother

Although we still fight over food, I couldn't imagine my life without him.

2. Thanks for putting me in sports

Because growing up without something to do every night would of been really weird and it helped me make friends along the way.

3. To my Dad, thanks for always pushing me to my full potential.

Even though sometimes I wish you would have been quiet, I'm happy you kept talking. You've taught me a lot in my 18 years. Lessons were taught on and off the field constantly. Thank you for changing your schedule if I told you I wanted to go hitting and then taking me to McDonalds if I did well. Those were my favorite days.

4. To my Mom, thanks for always being there when I needed a shoulder to cry on

Whether it was from stupid boy drama or friend drama, you have been there for it all, including when I thought dad was pushing me too hard at practices and in life. I know I have a really big attitude sometimes when I'm cranky, so thanks for putting up with that too. I hope one day I can be half the mother that you are to me.

5. Thanks for clearing your weekends to watch me do what I love

Thanks for driving me to New York in snowstorms and taking me to the beach once a year. I made friendships that I wouldn't have made if it wasn't for tournament ball. Nothing like 3 a.m. mornings and spending all day out in the sun all because of me.

6. Thank you for acting like you really enjoyed my field hockey games

Trust me, I know you hated hearing that whistle. Especially those middle school days. But you always tried making it to every game, which meant the world to me.

7. Thanks for always taking my friends in as if they were your own children

I don't think there is a day that goes by where my friends and I actually function as a whole. Thanks for always letting us rent movies and buy food just for all of us to be sleeping by 2 a.m. when we said we were staying up "really late." Also for letting us crash in the living room just so there is no where to sit and its like a maze trying to get through our living room because of everyone on air mattresses.

8. Thank you for encouraging me to follow my dreams

Along with playing softball in college, thank you for allowing me to go to my school of choice. I not only have had the best roommate my freshman year, but also have made some friends that will last a lifetime.

9. Thank you for being my biggest supporters in life

Without your support, none of my successes in life would have happened. Support on and off the field was always there. Your constant support meant/means more to me than you'll ever know.

10. Thank you for being my Mom and Dad

There are plenty of more things that you guys do/did for me on a daily basis that I couldn't be more thankful for. You guys are truly the best parents. Kyle and I couldn't have been more lucky than to have you two as our parents.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
