Mother's Day was this past weekend, and I could not help but think about one day doesn't do justice to all the love mothers everywhere should receive for all they do. Being a stay at home mom taking care of kids, the house, cleaning, cooking, and doing practically everything, working moms who work their butts off to provide. Mothers are a different breed.
Both of my grandmas came to America 40-something years ago with their husband and kids from Korea. Everything was unknown. They didn't know the language. They didn't know how or where they'd get jobs. They didn't know anybody. They were leaving almost everything and everyone they knew behind. Talk about taking big leaps. They are/were spending their lives providing for their kids who now provide for me, my brother, and my cousins, and have planted roots here in America out of nothing.
My mom, what a woman! She's my best friend and my role model. As I grow into adulthood, if anyone who knows her were to tell me I remind them of her — even just a little bit I would be honored. A lot of who I am is from her. She's selfless, loving, and serves everyone wholeheartedly. She teaches me how to be a better person and knows me better than I know myself sometimes. She's always right, she lights up any room, she knows what to say, she seems to know all the answers to every question I've ever had since I was a kid, she carries herself with grace, humility, and patience. She goes the extra mile and then five more miles. One day and one article is not close to being enough to fully capture the admiration, love, and gratitude I have for her. But it's the best I can do living on the other side of the country from her on a broke college student budget.
So here's to the mothers. Who love like no one else. Who serve like no one else. Who do everything out of love. Who believe in us when nobody else in the world will. Who never give up. Who knows just what we need even when we don't. Who never ask for anything in return, but deserve the world. They are truly an inspiration, and keep the world going round. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. You are strong, fierce, and are appreciated more than words can say. Nothing you do for your family goes unnoticed, and there isn't a necklace or bouquet of flowers, or pampering that will ever come close to making up for the hell us kids have and will put you through.
