Dear Officers,

Thank you.

Thank you for coming when my car was broken into in the middle of the night. Thank you for coming to help my mom when she was in a car accident on Mother's Day. Thank you for coming to my school everyday to make sure we all stayed safe. Thank you for coming every time you're called no matter how big or small the crime may have seemed.

Thank you for working to keep us safe no matter the weather conditions. Thank you for working even on holidays when you would much rather be at home with your own family. Thank you for coming in even when you don't feel good.

Thank you for still protecting people even when they scream rude things. Thank you for continuing to protect and serve even when it puts you in danger. Thank you for putting your life on the line to serve all those around you. No matter if they are black, white, old, young, tall or short. Thank you on behalf of all those who are too ignorant to say thank you.

You're job is far from easy and many wouldn't even dare to do. It takes a very special person to become a police officer. A person who is kind and strong and so brave. Being a police officer isn't safe lately so, thank you for still showing up to work and defending those who put you in danger.

I would also like to thank your families. Thank you for allowing your loved one to put themselves on the line everyday, even if some people don't appreciate it. Just know many people do appreciate you & your loved one. We appreciate all the sacrifices you have made to keep your community safe.

Many people understand that a few bad people in a group don't make the whole group bad. Many people know that cops are mostly good people. We are here, and we support you. Some ignorant people may not support you, but I do. I understand how tough it must be to have people personally attack you for events you had no control over, to feel like everyone is against you. But just know, we are not all against you, there is still many of us who do not blame all officers for the handful of poor police experiences.

And to my community, It is wrong to judge one race for the poor actions of a few people in the group, so why is it okay to do that to police officers? If you don’t like the way some cops act, join the force. Make a difference, be the change you want to see in the world. Take a step back and look at it from police officers point of view. Then see how you feel about the situation or police officers as a whole. Maybe after that you will want to thank them as well.

Signed,

A supportive citizen.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
