A Thank You Letter To My Little Brother

Hearing the news sure wasn't very easy for me, because I was so damn use to being the only child. But he sure has been a blessing since he came in to my life... I guess fate has its unique way of teaching us things.

I am now 20 years old and he just recently turned 8, and there's not a day that I am not thankful for him coming into my life. I mean, I made a vow to protect him always and be his best friend... so here's to you little brother.

1. Thanks for reminding me that even with age, it's necessary to keep my heart young.

It is rather true that the older I get, the more I think that certain things are lame. But since he's been in my life, I regained my youthful spirit. I realized that with age, it's inevitable to be cranky about everything because life is just unbelievably complicated most of the time. It's OK to stay young though, to be a little excited about the little things, because they're the ones that truly matter.

2. Always making my day with your witty comments.

Yes, he's a very smart boy and I know for a fact that he has a bright future ahead of him one day. But he's reached the age where he's learning those witty comments and quirks that he's heard from other people or the TV. And it's quite funny. I look forward to waking up everyday and wondering what smart thing is gonna come out of his mouth today.

3. Loving with a pure heart.

It's as simple as reminding that you love someone with all your heart. And I must say, his behavior rubbed off on me, and I always make sure I tell people that I care about that I love them every chance I get.

4. Self-confidence.

It honestly amazes me to know someone that has a high self-esteem, just like my little brother. He loves himself to put it in simple words. And you know what? I strive to one day get there. To love myself with everything, but for now maybe being reminded by you is perfect enough.

5. To always be my best, because I have you looking up to me.

It is safe to say that my little brother look up to me. So thanks for keeping me straight at all times, so I can be the best that I can be for you.

In reality, I know our little bicker fights will always be our thing. And I know that there will be times where we will get on each others' nerves to the point where we probably want to rip our hairs off. Those things will always be inevitable because we're siblings. But no matter what happens and wherever this wonderful life takes us, I want you to always know that you're my family and I will always be your big sister. So even though you're probably gonna be taller than me one day, just know that I can still protect you. I love you little brother, and words can't describe how much you mean to me.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
