A Thank You Letter To The Women In My Life
Samantha Johnston

Thank you to all of the beautiful women that have been in my life. I have been blessed with all of the people that have come into my life, but the women who have inspired me have created who I am. I cannot count how many women have been in my life but I can truly say that each one has made an impact.

I am truly grateful for all that you have done. Thank you for coming to my high school orchestra concerts when no one else could. Thank you for bringing your birthday party to me when I was sick. Thank you for dancing way too hard and laughing way too much. Thank you for teaching me lessons I would have not learned otherwise. Thank you for inspiring me to be unique.

I am unique; I am different. I am this way because of all of the women who have been a part of my life. These women have been my teachers, my family, my friends, people that I have lived with, people that I have worked with, and all of the others who have walked into my life. I am truly grateful for all of the shinning moments we got to spend together. Even the hard, painful lessons they taught me have allowed me to grow into who I am. They have showed me that when life is hard you can still find joy.

I have grown into a unique young woman because of their presence in my life. They have shown me that it is okay to be a little awkward, to show my wild side and be a little sassy. I have learned that being different is something people treasure. These women have taught me that I should not hide my differences but instead I should flourish in them. I should show the world who I really am. By doing this I can open up a whole new world of kindness and compassion. I can show others that they can be themselves in our world of sameness. They have allowed me to be different.

The amount of time during the relationship does not matter. All that truly matters is the impact that they have made. Women I have known all my life inspire me to be different. Some I may have only known for a week but the kindness they have shown me still inspires me to be different.

Even during hard times in their lives I still have been given kindness from them. They care so much and give up so much time to allow growth and happiness. They seem to always have enough time to show me joy or put a smile on my face. I have been blessed with kindness even when their life seems to crumble.

The moments we have shared will never be compromised. They will always stick out to me and remind me of where I came from. I am so lucky to have so many amazing women to share their experiences with me and allow me to share my differences. I hope that one day I can do the same for other young women in my life.

One day I will show others that being different is something to treasure. I will show them the kindness and compassion that these amazing women have shown me. No matter the situation of my life I hope that I can always find a way to show others their uniqueness. Until then, thank you to all of the women who have inspired me to take a chance and to show the world who I am. I am forever grateful for everything that you have done for me. Thank you.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
