A Thank You Letter For The Past 14 Years,
Dear Best Friend,
Google says that if you’ve been friends for longer than six and a half years, your chances of being friends forever are about 95 percent. Well, we’ve more than doubled six and a half years, and if Google is correct, (which, duh, when isn’t Google correct?) We have the odds on our side. I don’t think I can ever imagine a life without you by my side. From Mrs. Honkanen’s first grade class, to Bishop Foley High School, to now, 2016, we have never left each other's side, ever. Some people wait their whole lives for what we have, so let’s take a minute to congratulate our accomplishments, though it was never hard being your best friend, it surely has been rewarding. Growing up, we were always everyone’s best friend goals. We never fought, and we still never have. In fact, when we are faced with difficulties, we find a way to become closer.
When my mental health took a turn for the worse back in 2012, so many people walked out on me, let’s be real, almost everyone did. You didn’t. You stayed. I can’t imagine seeing your best friend go through what happened to me, I can’t imagine what I would have done if the tables were turned. You did it, though. You stayed up with me until 3 am, you came and picked me up every time I needed you, even when you were exhausted. No one else listened to my cries the way you did, you went above and beyond the expectations, you are my lifesaver. I will always hold close our midnight car rides to McDonalds, jamming to Taylor Swift. I will never forget our middle school music video making stage, when we recorded us jamming out to every song on the radio, those are the memories that keep a smile on my face.
I love you for you. I love how you’re still obsessed with Justin Bieber at almost 20 years old, people think you’re crazy for it, but me, I see commitment, the same commitment you always give me. I love your passion for helping people, you have the biggest heart, never lose sight of who you are, because I love you for everything you are, and everything you aren’t. Lastly, thank you for being the best friend I have ever had. Thank you for listening to country music with me, even though you hate it. Thank you for standing up for me in high school, when I had some of the worst years of my life, you never let anyone bring me down. Thank you for accepting me, you help me embrace my flaws and always make sure I see the beauty in imperfection. God blessed me with a biological twin brother, but he knew I would need a sister, so he put us together, and I thank him every day for that. So here’s to 14 years and 100 more. I love you lots like tater tots!
Love,
Your BIFFL
