We Are Thankful Despite The Lack Of "Thank Yous"

A Thank You Letter To My Parents, From An Ungrateful Child
Personal

Dear person(s) who gave me everything in the world,

You brought us into this world and you’ve always threatened you'll take us out of it. You’ve given us everything. You fed us when we cried and whined. You put clothes on us when we couldn’t decide for ourselves and when we didn’t have enough money from our paycheck to buy us more. You held us when we cried and dealt with us when we yelled over mistakes. You punished us to teach us lessons and took away our belongings to teach us more.

We understand that you’ve given us the world, up until we hit that age of wanting to be independent and then you continued to give us more. We grew up grateful when we were young then we got the taste of being an adult with driving and getting our first job or going off to college. We branched away from you when we learned how to be strong and be ourselves. We keep taking every chance we get when you buy us clothes just because, when you buy us food, when you buy us anything we ask for but we never say thank you.

Dear person(s) who did all this for us, don’t be upset at us for how we act to you. Don’t be mad at us for taking and taking but never giving to you in return. Don’t think you raised us wrong because we find it hard with our young “adult” years to be so giving back for all the years you gave to us. We are trying to establish ourselves in the world so when you need us we can take care of you. We will feed you when you cry and whine. We will clothe you when you can’t pick anything. We will hold and comfort you when you are in pain or lonely. We will be there for you like you were for us.

We are grateful despite how we act. We are appreciative of everything since day one. We love you for everything you’ve ever given us. We’ve learned from everything you’ve taught us.

And after all this time we want to say thank you. We love you. We are grateful. We are learning and we are moving up in the world. We will be there for you one day soon. Maybe today, maybe tomorrow, we will be there for you. Even if we don’t answer your phone calls or text within the hour or maybe the day.

We are grateful.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.

Obsessive Thoughts Keep My Brain Stuck On A Loop And Me Stuck On My Couch

Sometimes my brain just starts turning on an idea and it doesn't want to stop.

I don't know if it is related to my anxiety, perfectionism or depression. I don't know why it happens. It's frustrating, it's painful and it stops me from functioning.

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.
