Shout Out To My Sisters

My freshman year I went to a small school in New Hampshire called Franklin Pierce. After being there for one semester I knew I had to get out. It was way to laid back for me, and in the middle of nowhere. Only about 1,500 people attend, I am used to being busy all the time not having to see the same people everyday, and having civilization around me. When I made the decision to transfer I was so worried that I wasn’t going to be able to make new friends because everyone finds their group of friends their freshman year of college. I knew I had to join something. I talked to my friend Jake from back home, who is also in a fraternity at Oneonta. I asked him if I should join Greek life when I transfer to Oneonta, he said “ Yes it was one of the best decisions I made when I first got to school.” Then proceeded to tell me about how he thought I would fit in with the girls of Phi Sigma Sigma.

As I arrived to campus the first night I met a couple of the girls on my floor, they weren’t very welcoming. That’s what made me nervous I wasn’t going to be able to make any friends without being a part of something on campus. So I decided I definitely need to join a sorority. I remember Jake telling me about the girls of Phi Sigma Sigma and I noticed that they had a couple of events during the first week school and I figured why not? I went to the events met a couple of the girls throughout rush week, got to know them and hanging out with them felt so natural. Everyone was so welcoming and so much fun.

I knew that I wanted to be a part of the sisterhood. All during rush week I was so nervous I wasn’t going to get a bid, and all I wanted was some friends going into a school where I only knew about five people. At the end of rush week I was so excited when I received my bid! FRIENDS!! Ever since that day I decided to rush, I made the best decision of my life. I could not even imagine what my life would be like without being in Phi Sig at Oneonta.

Being part of this sisterhood I never get bored because someone is always down to hangout, and you meet more people within different Greek organizations and make more and more friends. Transferring to Oneonta and Joining Phi Sigma Sigma was the best decision I have ever made and I could not be happier!

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
