I didn't know what to expect. All I saw was a sorority house, a glimpse of a girl brushing her blonde hair, and a whole lot of pink. Where was this movie going?
I definitely did not expect it to take me to Cambridge, Massachusetts into the life of a Fashion-major turned Harvard Law Student, let alone become the place where I found one of my role models: Elle Woods!
You might think that it's crazy that I found a role model in a fictional character but here are a few reasons why I love Elle Woods.
1. She is true to herself.
Throughout the movie, Elle is pressured to change her "girly-girl" identity. Despite the amount of times she has been called "Malibu Barbie" based her on her appearance, Elle does not let that deter her from her own goals of becoming a Harvard Law graduate. She is proud of who she is and would never let go of her dominantly pink wardrobe regardless of the circumstances.
2. She helps others and is always there for her friends, wholeheartedly.
Whether she is giving fashion advice to one of her friends, helping her manicurist through relationship issues, or helping a former Delta Nu sister through legal troubles, Elle supports them 100 percent.
3. Her positive attitude is infectious.
We cannot forget the "Snap Cup" she created for her team in Washington D.C. that completely transformed their dysfunctional dynamic.
4. She encourages us to have faith in ourselves and the people around us.
No dream is ever too big or unattainable as long as you have faith in yourself and those around you.
5. She knows what she wants.
Becoming a law student, a lawyer, an animal rights' activist and maybe even President of the United States (praying for Legally Blonde 3) was definitely because of her defined sense of purpose to bring about change.
These are just a few reasons why I absolutely love Elle Woods (and also why I watch the movie repeatedly). Her spirit is empowering and I hope that she makes everyone feel like the impossible is possible, like she has done for me.
