10 Things I Need To Thank My Bigs For, Because Two Is Better Than One And They Really Are The Best
Marlee Nickow

Before big/little reveal, I was determined to create a close bond with whoever my big would be, or in my case bigs. Now that it is long past the reveal, I can honestly say that my bigs are two of my closest friends. Honestly, I don’t know how I would deal with the ups and downs of college without them.

So, thank you both for…

1. The best big/little reveal

Me being me, I hate surprises. I kept asking people trying to find out who my big was (sorry!), but obviously I had no luck. Thank goodness I didn’t! Thank you for making the reveal so fun and surprising. It was definitely one of the best days of school thus far.

2. Being positive when I may not be

It is really easy for me to give up or not want to try in certain situations. Thank you for telling me that everything will be okay, but only if I am proactive and do something about it. You never want to see me sad, and I of course never want to see either of you sad, so that works out! You are constantly telling me the upside of a crappy situation, and that is always appreciated.

3. Hanging with me when we’re out

Thank you for always sticking by my side, even when it’s just for a couple minutes, when we are out. It’s so comforting to know that you guys are there to talk to or there if anything comes up. You both are always my go-to’s.

4. The best advice

This is a big one. Thank you so much for the endless advice that actually helps me get through the easy and hard days. No matter what it is advice about, I always know that talking to you guys will help me feel better and confident about whatever is going on. Even when you have lots of homework and studying to do, it is much appreciated that you still take time to listen to me and really help. I do not have enough thank you’s in the world, so please know how much it actually means to me. Ugh ILY.

5. Taking the best pictures with me

You guys could probably be my whole Instagram feed let's be real. We actually take the best pictures together! There could be a picture taken with hair super messy, and no trace of makeup on our faces, and it would absolutely still turn out. We are the CUTEST fam and the pictures definitely further that point.

6. Checking in with me

Thank you for taking time out of your days to ask how I am doing, or how my night was. Keeping you guys updated is super important to me of course, no matter what is happening in my life. Talking to you both and telling you fun stories is one of my favorite things!

7. The candy

Thank you for the skittles! Nuff said.

8. Comforting me when the tears come

You both 100% have been there to see the tears (if you know you know). Thank you for sitting on my bed with me and comforting me. Thank you for helping me to feel better always…I actually appreciate it more than you know. No matter where/when the tears hit, I know you both will always be there to help me get past it and make sure the next day is a much better one.

9. For being like legit moms

Thank you for always watching out for me like a mom would and helping me make right choices because college can be really hard. All while being my close friends, you are still making sure everything is good and safe on my end.

10. Being everything I wanted my bigs to be

I believe we meet everyone for a reason, and I that is definitely the case with you guys. College would really not be the same without you both in my life. Thank you for being two of my best friends. I love you guys!

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
