Thank You, Bernie

A small thank you to a extraordinary presidential candidate from Vermont.

Thank You, Bernie

If you don't know me personally, then you might want to know one thing about me; I love Bernie Sanders. He inspired me in more ways than one to serve my community, so I want to write him a simple thank you.

Dear Bernie,

Thank you.

I know you are kind of bummed about not winning the democratic nomination and ultimately the White House, but you won more than that. You won just a little over 13 million votes. For someone who is a self described "democratic socialist", in one of the most conservative countries in the world, you did very well.

For me, it is very sad not to see you on the ticket, because as this the first time I get to vote I don't feel very passionate about either of the candidates who won their parties nomination.

One one side we have a career politician who will say anything to become our commander-in-chief, and on the other side we have Agent Orange of the Republican party.

Since the beginning of your run, you have been my favorite. I am a millennial, which means I am more liberal, and our stances on issues line up the best. But, you have been the most consistent in your rhetoric, since your entrance into congress in 1991: tuition-free higher education, immigration reform, LGBT rights, and the most important to me: the environment.

When you started your campaign no media gave you the time of the day towards running a substantial campaign. Your revolutionary stance of running against the establishment candidate, was favored by millions but not by the big media corporations.

You ran for millions of Americans who are living paycheck to paycheck, who can't afford quality healthcare. You reminded us many times that the system is rigged towards the elite.

During the past year, you have drove us right through a tour of the American reality, which many of Americans choose to ignore. The reality that 28 million Americans live without health insurance, or the 46 million that live off of food stamps. You drilled into our brains that America has more wealth and income inequality than any major country on this planet.

You told hard truths to help people who needed it the most. You didn't play into others politics which made headlines: insulting opponents or their wives. Instead, you talked to the citizens, our differences and our strengths as one country. You ran the campaign your supporters are proud of.

You made college debt and wall street politics mainstream political news. You did it by telling us the truth.

Now with your campaign no longer running, it's back to usual politics. Which means no more stopping climate change, reforming immigration policy, or legalizing marijuana. No longer will their be reasonable responses to terrorism or college debt.

There is one good thing though, you shined a light on my generation and the millions of millennials that you reached out to, and showed us that we can make a difference. You won 71 percent of youth voters, a tad over 2 million votes, more than Clinton and Trump combined. You inspired 2 million individuals under the age of 25 to get out and vote for a 74-year-old man. I have certainty that we will carry out your legacy and build off of it.

Thank you, Bernie, for showing me what my future may look like. Thanks for shaping my political views and life.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
