More Than Meets The Eye

I do not know what tomorrow has in store. I am more than what people think at first glance. I am more than meets the eye.

More Than Meets The Eye
Hayley Caddell

Throughout my life, people have always judged me based on my looks. When I first meet people, I don’t exactly get a chance to tell them the things that make me. Without really getting to know me, the first thing that someone would observe is that I am very outgoing and that I enjoy getting to know people. No one is a stranger to me. Although this is true, I am more complex than this. I’m not exactly the person to care what people’s opinion of me is. I pride myself on knowing who I am. Who am I? My name is Hayley Ann Elizabeth Caddell. I am a beautiful self-assured 18-year-old college student who is family oriented and models her life after Jesus Christ, who put passion into everything that he did.

One thing that I pride myself on is being self-assured. When I was younger, I use to be scared of what people thought of me. I used to get teased about my weight and how huge my nose was. There have been many experiences where boys dared each other to come up to me and try to get my number. Now that I am older, these many experiences in my life have helped me shape my self-esteem and the way I think about myself. I have always thought that phrase that “Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me.” I believe that I build my self-confidence off of this phrase when I was younger. One day I just stopped caring what people thought of me. I always walk around with my head held high and my shoulders back. I feel bad for the people who have low self-esteem. I cannot even imagine not loving the skin I'm in. I’m still figuring a lot of stuff out and I am not perfect. I believe that my calling in this world is to help people be who they really are. Pretty soon this world will be filled with confidence.

Ever since I could remember, I have always put passion in everything that I do. In life, if we do what we do without passion then we will just be doing it and it will not make an impact. I never do anything if I know that there will not be a positive result. I believe in finding the deeper meaning of things. I model my life after Jesus. Jesus suffered for something worthwhile and that’s what passion is all about. He had passion and believed that we as people were more than just sinners. Jesus suffered through rejection and people not believing him when he said that he was the Son of God. He would not have died for our sins if he thought that it was not going to bring something positive. Reading about Jesus doing this in the Bible made me realize that there is no life without passion and unconditional love. No matter how short or long my life is, I can only hope that I live this life to its fullest potential like Jesus.

Jesus put passion into everything that he did. Today, I am someone who loves her family, who is very extroverted, who is very poised and self-assured, who knows her calling in the world, who is passionate, and who models her life after Jesus Christ. I do not know what tomorrow has in store. I am more than what people think at first glance. I am more than meets the eye.

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
