I believe everyone has encountered a moment where we just stare at our phone while it is ringing until the person hangs up because we are in fear of a phone call. In our society today we have a hard time just picking up the phone to talk to someone. We would rather click the letters on our screen before using our voice to talk to people. I know not everyone is guilty of this, but I know I am. I would rather send a quick text than just call the person to say what I feel, but sometimes this can lead to conversations being ruined due to text messaging not being our best friend at all times.
Sometimes text messaging is convenient, but it depends on the way we use it and the way the person on the other end is reading it. Sadly, text messages are interpreted differently depending on how the message is perceived and by whom. This can be a good and bad thing because as humans we like to read into everything.
Maybe because your friend didn't put an exclamation mark after every sentence, you assume he/she is mad at you or maybe your boyfriend/girlfriend took something you said the wrong way, due to how they chose to read the text message. Yes, text messaging is great and it works for when you need to send something quick, but it should not be a daily habit. We are so depended on text messaging, that we lose our voice as a person.
Text messaging has no tone. But, we all fail to realize how text messaging can hold so much power over our conversations. We think it is the only way to communicate, but it is not. It would be more beneficial if we learn to bring back the golden days and just pick up the phone to say, "hey!" Calling someone allows us to hear the persons tone and voice and it doesn't lead us to misinterpret what is being communicated. A phone call holds more meaning than a text message ever could! But, we let the power of text messaging control us. Hopefully, we can all (Including myself) stop relying so much on communicating through text and pick up the phone and just talk!
