If you aren’t from Texas, you might underestimate the beauty that makes up the greenery and nature of this state. Even the word 'Texas' can conjure pictures of tumbleweed and desert and sand with horses and cowboys.
Alright, alright, alright - that might be an exaggeration, but even so. This is the Texas I think of:
Texas has some of the most beautiful wildflowers that I have ever seen and they seem to grow everywhere!
Bluebonnets
Bluebonnets are the official state flower and pop up all over. If you’re from Texas, you have taken pictures in bluebonnets. They begin to appear in February and line the highways and fill up the fields. But- be careful, Texans take true pride in this flower. In the state of Texas, it is technically illegal to pick them.
Indian Paintbrush
Another very prominent flower is the Indian Paintbrush. The vibrant red flowers fill up the fields as well. They got their name because they look paint dipped and there is a legend that says the Native Americans used to use them to paint.
Pink Evening Primrose
These gentle little pink flowers easily grow everywhere. They wither every day and re-bloom each evening.
Mexican Hat
These bright flowers have a unique look because of their resemblance to sombreros. The Mexican Hat attracts many different types of insects.
Indian Blanket
The Indian Blanket flowers remind me of the colorful Texas sunset with the red, orange, and yellow. They grow in bunches and end up being about 1-2 feet tall.
Wine Cup
Obviously, they are named Wine Cup, because they look like, well- wine cups. They are a type of poppy that butterflies and bees LOVE.
Those are just a few of the wildflowers that can be found in Texas, but there are many, many more. The untamed and wild beauty is unparalleled and definitely a spring time treat for flora lovers. If you’re anything like me, your whole phone is filled with pictures of flowers.
