As anyone in Texas can attest, it’s pretty dang hot here. Actually, that is definitely an understatement: It’s really, really hot here. I didn’t grow up in Texas. I moved here about eight years ago from Washington state, and the first few things that people asked me were, “Was it hard to move?” and “What’s different about Texas?”

To answer the first, yeah, it was really hard to move, and to answer the second, my response is always, “the weather.” Besides my own experience, just about everybody I’ve talked to has a strong opinion on the heat of a Texas summer. So here are the thoughts and feelings of Texans everywhere, as told by characters from the classic television show, “Parks and Recreation."

1. That feeling you have as spring comes to a close, and you know the end is near.

2. When that first day of summer heat hits.

3. The only relief is water.

There's nothing like a dip in the pool.

4. When it's only July and you're waiting for fall.

5. Finding an outfit that's both cute and keeps you cool.

6. Seeing people exercise, or perform any other outdoor activity, when it's 100 degrees out...

7. ... and being concerned for their well-being.

8. Buying ice cream everyday, because you're hot and it helps.

Strictly science.

9. That walk from the parking lot to the store.

10. When summer is over and fall is finally here!

11. But then you realize you'll have to go through all of this again next year.

Hopefully this made you laugh as you endured the heat. Remember, this won't last forever!

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
