The first school year I spent in California was a rough adjustment. California and Texas are so different. As much as I love California, there's a handful of things I think about from time to time that I can only get in Texas.
Whataburger
Man, I think about Whataburger a lot. Especially the fries and ketchup. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water. Also, the 24-hour set up was ideal.
The Texas Rangers
I basically grew up at Globe Life Park. That stadium saw many family gatherings, dates, friend outings. And when we (my family) couldn't go to the game, you already know we were watching it on TV or listening on the radio. Since moving to LA, I've become a fan of the Dodgers, but the Rangers will always be my team at heart.
Pak-A-Pocket
I miss my $5 pita pockets!! Pak-A-Pocket is a family owned pita shop and it was delicious. They also had great ice, it was somewhere in between Sonic ice and a snow cone.
The Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo
This is probably the most country I'm gonna ever get. The rodeo was always a big deal, and it always fell on my birthday! The school would usually give out free rodeo tickets around this time. My friends and I would always spend hours at the midway with the rides and games, after going to the rodeo. And I really miss getting to look at all the livestock, especially the cows.
Queso
I often fantasize about Torchy's queso. All I have really to say is, if the words "cheese" and "dip" or "sauce" are in the name, I am NOT interested
The End of the Dairy Queen Commercial
The Texas Dairy Queen commercials are very extra, to be honest, but that little jingle will be with me forever. I still sing it at the end of every Dairy Queen commercial.
Driving
I really miss driving in general, but especially on open roads with a speed limit of 70 mph that you can actually hit. Sure, there's traffic, but it's nowhere near as brutal as LA traffic.
Y'all
There's just something about not hearing "y'all" all the time that feels wrong to me.
Sweet Tea Anytime, Anywhere
The only good sweet tea I can find in LA is at Chick-Fil-A, and that's a major bummer.
My Friends and Family
Do I even need to elaborate?
The Sky
The sky back home is so beautiful and expansive (everything's bigger in Texas, ya know). Every sunrise and sunset is a work of art. I have so many pictures of the Texas sky, so I'll share with y'all some of my favorites.
