5 Reasons Texans Love Texas More Than Kanye Loves Kanye

Have you ever met someone from Texas? You would know if you have because we Texans tend to bring it up in conversations quite frequently. Why is this? Because Texans love Texas more than Kayne loves Kayne. To an outsider it may seem silly or dramatic, but once you have seen the beautiful Texas sunsets or sung the pledge of allegiance to the Texas state flag (yes, this is a real thing and yes, I still remember it. Try me.) before you began your fourth grade Texas History class, y’all will understand why Texans wish to secede.

Let’s take a trip down memory lane and remember why Texans love Texas and why y’all should too.

1. Cowboy boots

They are practical af. If you don’t think if it’s your style, you haven’t tried them on. Gals: wear them with any dress and it will be perfect for any tailgate or a casual day around town. Gents: White washed Levi's with boots. 'Nuf said.

2. The cities

Austin: Hipster cowboys. Need I say more? Dallas: America’s Team (The Cowboys) and the famous place where JFK was shot (Too soon? Probably). Houston: Ok, personally, Houston isn’t my thing, but it’s in Texas, so you gotta love it. San Antonio: REMEMBER THE FREAKIN' ALAMO.

3. The Texas State Fair

If you haven’t been…. book your tickets now and GO! September 28th- October 21st, 2018. Be there! It features fried food, a killer Ferris wheel, and Big Tex. You might need to bring your cowboy hat, though, because the sun is always shining on Texas.

4. Football

"Friday Night Lights," ever heard of it? We Texans love our football. The starting quarterback is basically a local celebrity. College football can make or break a relationship. Planning on meeting the parents soon? Stop trying to master your small talk game and start figuring out if they Hook 'Em, Gig 'Em, Wreck 'Em, or Sick 'Em. Y'all will thank me later.

5. Texas is beautiful.

I challenge you to road trip around Texas. You can drive nine hours and still stay in one beautiful state. I can guarantee you these things: you will see beautiful bluebonnets on every major highway, get significantly cooler if you stop by Marfa, and have a killer Instagram post if go to Big Bend. On this road trip, pull over and see a world famous Texas sunset.

I hope I have convinced you to visit the best state ever! You better come quickly before you need a passport. #TexasSecede

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter
morethanwheels

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!
