9 Terrible Things You Probably Did In 2014

In This Article:

We all remember 2014, right? Everyone was into boy bands and had a sad aesthetic and self-diagnosed themselves with mental illnesses and we were all in just the absolute worst times of our lives.

Ah, those were the days.

Anyway, as most people know, the human brain has a strange way of locking up horribly traumatic events into a "vault" in your brain. It covers things up and stows away memories that could be too damaging to you. So, I've decided to delve into my trauma bank and bring to you some of the things you may have forgotten. The things we all did in 2014.

1. You had or wanted THE hair.

Don't even act like you don't know what I'm talking about. All the scene/emo girls wanted that pink and platinum blonde fringe hair. The hair that was big and poofy on top, then thin and layered at the ends, and hung in your face so no one could see how sad you were!

2. Eating was a personality trait.

Remember being quirky because you like something that literally keeps you alive? Yeah, the whole "I like pie!" "Tacos!' phase was… an interesting one.

3. You idolized the color black.

Pink is for preps and I am but a loner emo girl who can't be like other girls. My wardrobe? Black. My soul? Black. My favorite color? Black. Or maybe a nice, dark midnight blue.

4. You used (awful) emoticons.

Why would you use an emoji or even a simple "lol", when you could show your true emotions through the famous "XD"? And of course, who could forget the family of cringe emoticons, such as cx, c:, xD, DX, and the ever famous uwu and owo

5. Your last name on Facebook was never your last name.

Throughout your hundreds of Facebook friends, there were probably a good many "Alice Cx", "Alex XD", and "Annie Horan"'s on your friends list. Why would I want my friends and family to notice that it's me posting or messaging when they could see my love of One Direction every time I'm online.

6. You had a boy band obsession.

Remember when people had hoodies that said "Mrs. Harry Styles" or wore 5SOS bracelets all the way up to their elbows? The tears we shed over men who never knew we existed? Remember RP'ing on Chatzy or Omegle and pretending to be members of a band? Dark times.

7. You were addicted to Wattpad.

Just the name sends shivers down your spine. Interacting with some other person your age and begging them to "PLZ UPDATE" because you NEED a new chapter of that Andy Sixx X (Y/N) fanfiction so you can read it on your iPad before bed!

8. Your typing was either metaphorically the worst or literally the worst.

There was little to no in between, you either typed like dis :3 or refused to make any grammatical mistakes, lest anyone think of you as anything less than an intellectual.

9. You spent way too much time on Omegle

One of the most dangerous websites I'd ever seen in my life! We, as MINORS, would just video chat and text with random people on the internet. We'd wade through all the videos of boys doing their business on live video in hopes to find some Facebook famous idol or some well-known blogger from Tumblr or hopefully, some band member.

an image of taylor swift standing center stage surrounded by her backup dancers in elegant peacock esque outfits with a backdrop of clouds and a box rising above the stage the image captures the vibrant aesthetics and energy of her performance during the lover era of her eras tour

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
