How Tennis originated

The tennis game was earlier known as Lawn Tennis. It originated in France in the 11th century as ‘’Jeu De Paume”. Later re-designed in England around the 1870s. Ever since then, it has taken by storm to the corners of the world.

Modern-day tennis is founded by none other than Major Walton Clopton Wingfield. “Book of Rules” was published by him. This book introduced the redesigned tennis game and rules for its beginners.

Tennis a Mental Game:

Ever heard that tennis is a mental game? Probably you are confused as it seems to be a physical game. What makes a player a champion is the ability to perform best under pressure. If you want to master tennis, you need to know about the mind-body connection.

Our mind and body are in harmony through neurotransmitters, chemicals, and hormones. What our mind thinks is signaled to the body. As a result, our body responds more strongly or weakly, depending upon our mental state.

Remember that energy your body feels when you achieve your goal? You are mentally and physically at your best. Also, compare your body strength during your rough times. During stress, your body experiences weakness, palpitations, bp fluctuations, and whatnot. A strong mind fuels energy and strength in our body, resulting in our best performance.

Not having a Tough Mind while playing Tennis:

  • A player can come in doubt on his skills
  • Loose strength if something unexpected happens
  • Might not be able to take the right decision at the right time
  • Affected by the surrounding environment, i.e., audience’s reactions
  • React rather than respond sensibly

Why do you need Mental Toughness?

Mental toughness isn’t just for winning the Tennis game. The motive behind learning mental strength is for you to live your life most productively. It helps you to control your anxiety and attention. It will help you build high self-esteem and confidence. You will be able to bounce back from your failures. Your body will also thank you for not putting stress on yourself!

‘Tennis requires a huge degree of mental strength,’ says sports psychologist Professor Andy Lane

How to strengthen mental toughness for Tennis:

Tennis experts reveal some of the best practices to get mental toughness. Practice these tips with consistency to yield desired results.

  • Learn the art of focus:

Focus on ‘’Now”. Take little steps and live in the moment. When practicing for tennis, be in the moment and do not think of anything else. Remove distractions, put your mobile away, and put your whole attention to one thing. Do it in your daily routine. It will build momentum and you will be able to produce better work quality.

  • Be Ready for the unexpected:

Before going to the tennis court, set no expectations about how the match will go or how well you will perform. Be your best and play with focus. If your competitor seems to be winning, you might lose your confidence and strength, leading to wrong decision-making. Just go with the flow.

  • It’s okay to lose:

You will not always win. Accept it. Sometimes your competitor would be stronger or smarter. You will still win if you learn from it. Look where were your weak points and practice more. Next time you will be better for sure!

  • Practice Mental Strengthening Drills:

There are thousands of mental strengthening drills you can find online. Practice them with dedication, and be consistent. It will help you in impulse control and building up relaxed concentration during the play.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
