9 Signs That You're The Ted Mosby Of Your Friend Group

"How I Met Your Mother" is a beautifully written TV series with many great characters. One such character is Ted Mosby: a dorky, slightly pretentious guy who loves his friends more than anything. Every friend group has a Ted, and if you can't pick who it is, it might just be you. Here's how to tell.

1. You're always trying to teach your friends something new.

Fun facts are your specialty, and whether your friends want to hear them or not, you probably consistently share them. Chances are you’re always trying to share a book or documentary that no one really cares about; but that will never stop you.

2. You probably make dorky, outdated jokes that no one understands.

Your “pop culture” references are about 20 years too late, and you often use puns and literary jokes that no one else finds funny. You may or may not laugh at your own jokes.

3. You get really passionate about Teddy Roosevelt.

OK, he’s like the coolest president to have ever lived. I’m not weird for loving him, you’re weird for not appreciating his awesomeness.

4. You love pros and cons lists.

Major life decision to be made? That’s OK, there’s nothing a pros and cons list can’t fix.

5. Your stories are usually long, drawn out, and full of superfluous details.

It took Ted nine seasons to explain how he met his children’s mother because he spent most of his time going off topic. When you tell stories, you likely spend half the story going off on bunny trails explaining “necessary” backstories (hint: the backstories probably aren’t needed. Keep it short and sweet, guys).

6. You use the word superfluous in regular conversation.

Like Ted, you work in ridiculous vocabulary words into everyday speech, giving people an odd impression. Chances are you end up having to explain what the word means…not that you mind, you really do love teaching people new things.

7. You love the daily crossword puzzle.

There’s no explanation needed. The crossword puzzle is a ritual.

8. You look forward to road trips and you may or may not have a playlist for such occasions.

And that playlist may or may not include “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” by The Proclaimers.

9. Your friends are the most important people in your life.

You’ll do anything for the people you care about. Just about everywhere you go you make new friends, but at the end of the day there’s a core group you always go back to. You would drop anything to help your friends out. You love them with every fiber of your being and their happiness is vital to your happiness.

Sure, Ted might be considered dorky or pretentious, but in reality? He’s a great guy and every friend group needs a Ted.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
