I’ll be honest, when I was in high-school, I would often use slang words. These words included words such as “yo” or “sup?” So, when I was with my younger brother and his friends, I was rather confused by the “words” they were using. I googled most of them, and many of them were online, but unfortunately there were some that I just couldn’t find anywhere. So, for all of you out there struggling to understand teenage vernacular, I picked out ten of my favorite words that kids are using nowadays.

10. Finna

Meaning: “Finally going to”

Origin: Fi(nally go)nna

Luckily, I was actually able to find this one online. It makes sense to me, as the origin works out. I actually kind of like this one, and have been using it myself.

Rate: 9/10

9. Finsta

Meaning: An instagram created by someone to post silly pictures of themself. Often on private, and only allow friends to follow.

Origin: F(ake) Insta(gram)

I was also able to find this one online. I think it is an interesting concept, and while I cannot say that I will be making one myself, I think that they definitely have a part in our social media landscape.

Rate: 7/10

8. Lermnad

Meaning: Lemonade

Origin: N/A

This is the first one on our list to truly have no traceable origin online. I guess it kind of sounds like lemonade. I have recently started using it, and it's something I could see myself saying in this future

Rate: 8/10

7. “Sure, sure”

Meaning: What you are currently saying is unlikely to be true

Origin: Believed to have developed from the sarcastic “Yea, sure”.

Additionally, kids will make the quotation symbols with their fingers (index and middle) while saying it. I find this one to be quite good. In fact, I could definitely see this spreading rapidly in the near future.

Rate: 9/10

6. QTNA

Meaning: Question That Needs Answering

Origin: Abbreviation

This one is by far the worst on the list. Questions (excluding rhetorical) always require answering. That’s why the question was asked to begin with. So to say that it needs answering is just redundant.

Rate: 1/10

5. Garbo

Meaning: Horrible

Origin: Shortened version of the word “garbage”

I’d say this one is probably my favorite. Makes sense why it exists. It sounds cool. And it rolls off the tongue.

Rate: 10/10

4. Mozzahooba Sticks

Meaning: Mozzerella Sticks

Origin: N/A

This one makes no sense to me. I have nothing else to say.

Rate: 4/10

3. Finesse

Meaning: To get more out of a situation than originally intended

Origin: No certainty, but it comes from the Chicago area

This one is one that I like. The word finesse itself sounds really cool, and it has a unique meaning.

Rate: 7/10

2. Top Five

Meaning: Very Good

Origin: Something is so good, that it is top five.

This one is pretty cool. I like it a lot and will most likely be using it often.

Rate: 9/10

1. Monster Mash

Meaning: N/A

Origin: N/A

I saved the best for last. Or worst, depending on how you look at it. I don’t really understand the use of this one, but kids were just randomly yelling it.

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…
