10 Things People With Unique Names Are Tired Of
Crave Online

Having a unique name can be fun and sometimes a hassle. It can get old pretty quickly when you are constantly reminding people the correct pronunciation of your name. I enjoy having a unique name because it is different and I haven't met anyone who spells their name the way that I do.

These are some things people with unique names have to deal with:

1. You can't ever find items with your name on them.

Key chains, mugs, pens, and any other item with your name on it cannot be found in stores. Anything you want with your name on it, you have to get it customized or make it yourself.

2. Teachers mispronounce your name the first day--and all year long, for that matter.

During your school years, teachers cannot seem to get your name right. Even after they say "correct me if I mispronounce your name," and you do, they continue to say it wrong all year.

3. Some want to give you "cute" nicknames because they can't pronounce you name right.

Some who continuously say your name wrong want to make up a short nickname to make it easier for them.

4. People have questioned if you spelled your name right.

Because some have never seen the spelling of a name a certain way, they question if you messed up. No...I know how to spell my own name.

5. Restaurants that take your name down always misspell it.

Anytime you get Starbucks the name written on your cup is not right. This goes for any food you have delivered or where they take your name down for the order.

6. People you have known for awhile still mess up.

Even people who should know how to spell or pronounce your name still mess up or get confused on how to say and spell it.

7. You feel the need to always spell out your name.

When someone asks your name to write it down, out of habit you always spell it out just to be safe.

8. Your computer recognizes your name as a mistake.

When your are typing a paper, when you put your name at the top the red squiggle line pops up underneath of it.

9. Name tags aren't helpful.

Even with you name plastered on your chest, people can't figure it out. Most times when they try, they don't get it right.

10. And sometimes, you just let them say or spell it wrong

After awhile, it can become not worth the hassle. You just get tired and accept that people will continually call you by the wrong name. So, you just let it go and forget about it.

Having a differently spelled name and dealing with these troubles is something that us with unique names just have to deal with the rest of our lives. So correct those who get it wrong and save some excitement for those who get it right on the first try.

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
