Take it from someone who was just in your shoes, do not let your freshman year slip by. Time goes fast, college is no exception. There are a lot of things that I wish I was told during my freshman year of college.
Here is an inside guide to life as a college freshman from someone who just lived it:
1. Never sit in your dorm during your free time.
During the weekends and days, my classes ended early, I always stuck to myself and sat in my dorm. My first semester of college wasn't as fun as it could have been.
2. During Welcome Week/Sylly Week get involved and make friends.
The first week of college at Penn State, they had something called Welcome Week where they had games and activities for the incoming freshman to go out and meet new people and have a good time.
3. Break out of your shell, don't be shy.
Fight every bone in your body to break that shyness trap and be free. Once you're free from it, living the best college life will be so much easier.
4. When there are activities around campus, GO!
There are fun activities, informational activities, and relaxing activities— go give them a try! Plus, it's another way to make friends.
5. Try new things, keep your door open, and make it welcoming!
The best way to make more friends and be less shy is to keep the door open. With an open door, people can walk in and say hello!
6. Join clubs, organizations, ANYTHING!
Join clubs and organizations that connect to you or can help you as a person. I joined the cheer team that sparked my hobbies and a sorority that is helping me as a person.
7. Keep up with your emails (prizes are a huge thing)
Some emails are opportunities to win money, free tickets, and info on getting you involved and being out and about.
8. Have fun, BUT study!
College can be fun, but don't forget you are paying to get a degree.
9. Make Friends!!
Making friends is a key to a fun college life. Making friends means making memories for years and years to come!
