Who doesn’t love Sundays’? Especially a Sunday filled with football, laziness, and food. Every year at the beginning of February, millions of Americans surround their television sets in anticipation of the big game. Here are some reasons why Super Bowl Sunday is one of the best days of the year.
1. Food. Who does not love eating mass amounts of food while they watch others do physical activity on a TV? In fact, following Thanksgiving, more food is eaten on Super Bowl Sunday than any other day of the year.
2. Commercials. Nothing beats a good Super Bowl commercial. Every year, it is a competition between the funny commercials and the ones that really tug on the heart strings. Companies spend ridiculous amounts of money for just a few seconds of airtime on Super Bowl Sunday; they better make it worth it.
3. Laziness. The Super Bowl is the ultimate excuse to lounge around all day in sweatpants and not go to the gym without feeling guilty.
4. Gym time. On the other hand, if you do go to the gym chances are nobody else will be there so all the machines will be open.
5. Half-time. Every year it is always entertaining to watch the half-time performance. Especially since Super Bowl XXXVIII, when Janet Jackson gave everyone a little more than just a half-time show. People now watch the performances partially to be entertained, but mostly to hope the performer has a repeat of 2004.
6. Family and friends. I know, it sounds really cliché, but it is always better having everyone get together for something other than a holiday. Except, football might as well be considered a national holiday in this country.
7. Fans. Even if your team did not make it to the Super Bowl, it is always amusing watching the fans with teams that did. Sometimes, I make the day slightly more entertaining by pulling against a die-hard fan. The reactions of fans during games as crucial as this are simply priceless.
8. Bars. The Super Bowl is an excuse for 21-year-olds to hit up the local bars on a Sunday without being judged.
9. Gambling. I am not much of a gambler myself, but like everyone else, you have to throw some money down on this day. The most fun is betting on squares, but it seems like every year the same person wins at least twice. Let me tell you, that person is never me.
10. Football. Although it means the ending to the season, it is always awesome to watch the best teams duke it out for the title.
Every year, it is a much celebrated day. The Super Bowl has become an unofficial holiday in the U.S., and who could argue with that?
