10 Pieces Of Life Advice
Joshua Earle

With age comes wisdom, and that is something I got. With my birthday just a few months ago, I thought it would be great to pass down some knowledge that I have gained through the years of my illustrious life. I decided on ten quotes or bits of advice that I have learned over the years followed by my interpretation of them.

“So God created mankind in his own image. In the image of God He created them. Male and female He created them.”

I would not say that I am a Christian, but I was bored one day at this hotel and the only book they had was a bible, so I decided to flip through it and this one resonated with me. Basically, it’s what's on the inside that counts.

“No one plans to poop their pants.”

This pretty much means to plan ahead. The classic buy a plunger before you need a plunger. You never know when life might throw you a curveball and you got to be ready to receive it.

“Martin Shkreli can’t dunk.”

This is just to say that no one is cut from a different cloth, you can’t be the best at everything and you have to play to your own strengths. And it’s OK, I can’t dunk either.

“Always remember that 4^(1/2)=2, 9^(1/2)=3 16^(1/2)=4 etc.”

Which just means to never forget your roots.

“Never forget the fundamentals.”

It’s always important to master the basics before you move on and start from the beginning. You can’t bake a cake without eggs.

“The glass is neither half empty nor half full. It’s a matter of your own perspective.”

This just goes to show that the world is how you want to see it. Don’t let others’ fantasies crush your reality.

“Be attractive to the type of person you want to be with.”

I really like this because it is one of the more thought provoking ones. Don't be an idiot to someone you don't want to be with.

“Doing too much at once can lead to disaster.”

This is just saying that if you had two options, such as study or socialize, you should choose one or the other and not both. Of course, this isn’t something that applies to everything in life, so use this as you see fit. One thing that I started doing, which is a bit more advance is that I completely cut out regular coffee and so now I only drink decaf coffee, but I add my own caffeine.

“Be like science.”

Which just means that everyone’s happier when you say you’re wrong or you don’t know. So next time you realize you aren’t on the right track in the middle of an argument, just go to the classic, “You know, I never thought of it like that before, thanks for showing me another perspective. Jerk.”

“You aren’t alone in the world.”

No matter how old you are and you feel lost in your life and don’t know what to do, just realize that you are not alone. No one has any idea what they are doing and no one’s path is a straight shoot to the finish line. It seems like we all have a million things we could be doing, but nothing seems right. You have to get started before you actually know where you’re going. The goals that we aren’t always destinations, but they are directions. You can never know what to find when you’re only looking from where you are right now. If anything, try something new, if only to prove that it was not the right choice. And you’ll be amazed at all the new experiences you will have.

So that’s really all the advice I can give you. I did not number these because the last piece of advice is a lesson for you-- "you have to learn to trust others." Is it really ten pieces of advice or not?

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter
morethanwheels

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!
