The holiday break is upon us already. For some, you may already be halfway through; for others (like me), you've only just begun.
After the first few days it can get devastatingly boring, lonely, annoying, or all three. You can read a book, ride a bike, take a hike, or . . . you can binge watch a crap ton of movies.
I have just the list for you:
1. "BOYS" ("Jongens")
I'm not going to lie to you. I've watched this film eight times. It's probably one of the best LGBT films I've watched in a very, very long time, and it's positively beautiful and romantic in the most wonderful of ways. Seriously. I could spend half my break watching this movie over and over again and never get tired of it. I still get butterflies.
2. "The Way He Looks"
Another poignant LGBT+ movie that has hit Netflix as of late. It's sweet, and syrup slow in its storytelling that hits you just right. I could spend the other half of my break watching this movie over and over again.
3. "Silver Linings Playbook"
Not only did JLaw get the Oscar for this performance, but she actually deserved it. This movie is one of my favorites if I need a good laugh, cry, or smile. It's a film full of new beginnings and life lessons that leaves you feeling like you could conquer the world.
4. "Matt Shepard Is a Friend of Mine"
Positively stunning in its production and heartbreaking in its storytelling. This movie will have you crying and then spending the rest of your break trying to overcome the overwhelming dose of heartache you will surely experience in its short hour and 28 minutes.
5. The "High School Musical" franchise
I don't need a reason for this. Re-watch it always, forever, and never forget.
6. "Geography Club"
Another LGBT+ movie that is too good for this world. An absolute treasure in its friendship, relationship, and personal development that transcends way beyond my capacity of emotional development.
7. Beyond The Lights
This deserved so much more credit than it got, and once you watch it, you'll understand why. It's positively brilliant. Enjoy it becoming one of your top favorite movies of all. Time.
8. "The Boxtrolls"
I went and saw this in the theater and it was adorable, funny, and left me feeling warm and happy inside. This is the movie you end your break with, trust me.
9. "Crossroads"
This movie isn't even good, but it's good enough that it's become a classic flick for when life is dragging by too slowly and you need a good kick in the butt to move forward. In this case it would be getting ready for the spring semester.
10. The "Hunger Games" franchise
The last movie just released, so expect not to be able to have it on DVD for Christmas yet, but buy all the other movies and sit back and relive what will be known as our generational film franchise.
