In the winter it is easy to get in a date night slump. You usually want to spend the time you have at the end of the day bundled up watching Netflix, but why not use that time for some fun and inexpensive winter date nights?!

1. Cook dinner together.

All this is going to cost ya is some ingredients and a little bit of time. Homemade pizzas and tacos are always easy and delicious, or you can challenge yourself with a complex Pinterest recipe. The world is your oyster.

2. Fear factor.

While we are on the topic of food, why not have a fear factor night? Just combine some random ingredients together. This could be in an attempt to create a new yummy recipe, or to dare each other to eat or drink whatever concoction you came up with.

3. See a movie.

This is always a fun way to get out of the house. Plus, this time of year is great for new movies. My boyfriend and I have already planned on seeing at least five new movies before Christmas. (P.S. Sometimes your local movie theater gives discounts to students. Score!)

4. Take a hike.

Now this is a very weather permitting option, but still a ton of fun. It's always nice to explore with the one you care about. Just make sure to bundle up and grab a hot chocolate on the way back home.

5. Start a show together.

If you prefer to stay in, then why not start a show with each other? It will be fun to learn about new characters and plots with one another, and if you are a wimp like me, this is the perfect time to watch a suspenseful show since you won't be alone.

6. Build a fort.

I don't know about you, but building a bad ass fort will never get old to me. Throwback to your childhood amiright? Instead of bundling up with the blankets, drape them over chairs and couches to make an awesome fort.

7. Work out together.

Stay in shape for that spring break trip by working out together. Exercise releases endorphins which make you happier, so working out together could even help your relationship. Exercise also gives you more energy to fit more dates into your schedule!

8. Look at Christmas lights.

Take a little drive around the neighborhood to look at all of the fun and creative displays. Put on that Pandora Christmas station and enjoy the holiday season.

9. 25 days of Christmas night.

The 25 days of Christmas marathon on Freeform starts thanksgiving day. Grab some popcorn, hot chocolate, wine, whatever you like, and see what great movies are on. This is great for the really cold/bad weather nights.

10. Nap date.

This would have to be my favorite. Sometimes after a long and stressful day you don't want to go out but still want to spend time together. Why not catch up on sleep you both need? It may not be creative, but it sure is nice.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
