As a unique mitten-shaped state, Michigan has a lot to offer tourists starting from the five great lakes, and all the way to the lower peninsula and the upper peninsula. There are however, 10 places that stick out in my mind as the greatest tourist cities in Michigan.
1. Mackinaw is well known for its beautiful bridge that connects lower and upper peninsulas. After traveling on this bridge, one can stay in the city and tour historic light houses and walk the beach, or they can hop onto a ferry and ride to Mackinaw Island.
2. Traverse City is known for their cherry festivals every summer. This cute little downtown offers a wide range of stores and explorations, that usually result in tasting some sort of food made with cherries from the Cherry Republic.
3. Beaver Island is a low key vacation spot for those who are looking to get away and immerse themselves in nature with canoeing, hiking, and walking the beach.
4. Ludington is a great summer vacation spot full of activities, shopping, and the beach. It is not only possible, but very likely that one will lose track of time while walking around the city of Ludington.
5. South Haven is where locals and visitors flock during the summers to sit on the beaches, swim in lake Michigan, and watch the sun set behind the lighthouse.
6. Kalamazoo is a young and prosperous city with events constantly occurring over the weekends and throughout the summer. Kalamazoo annually hosts festivals such as RibFest, JazzFest, and GreekFest every summer.
7. Holland, Michigan proudly presents its annual TullipTimes festival in honor of the Dutch settlers that came from America from Holland.
8. Empire is the city where the legendary Sleeping Bear Dunes are located. Almost everyone knows the story of their formation, which is why Michigan is proud to be its home.
9. Old Mission is located on on of Michigan's many peninsulas, and is where there are miles and miles of grape vineyards and beaches.
10. Paradise, Michigan is home to one of Michigan's largest state parks, and the great Tahquamenon Falls.
