10 Broadway Cast Recordings To Get You Through Finals

As finals week is approaching, I know the only thing that gets me through studying are Broadway Cast recordings. Here is a list that I feel gets you in the mood to study with a breeze!

1. "Hamilton"

This first one goes without explanation due to high energy and being filled with history of our country. Perfect for any class studies but especially those history classes!

2. "RENT"

"Rent" is a monumental show in musical theatre history but it is also very uplifting. It is especially uplifting for college students since the characters are around our age or older.

3. "Wicked"

"Wicked" has a score that always gets my day started. There are some songs that really help with studying and really brighten up everyone's day!

4. "Spring Awakening"

"Spring Awakening" is filled with rock anthems that just can't help but make you sing along. The songs have great melodies that do get stuck in your head, but still a great score to listen to as you are going through your semester notes.

5. "In The Heights"

Lin-Manuel Miranda's first show is just as good as his current one. The score is electrifying and it is usually my go to when getting ready for both finals and every day.

6. "Heathers"

"Heathers" is so much fun and is definitely one of the best scores to listen to in general, but every single song is so upbeat and gets you ready for those grueling finals that you would have to deal with.

7. "Hairspray"

Photo from iTunes

Another fun musical that takes place in a school and with very catchy tunes. It is super popular which makes it easy to get into while studying.

8. "Legally Blonde"

Photo from iTunes

College sororities and catchy tunes. To me, this is the perfect cast recording to get you in the mood to study, because if Elle Woods can go to law school, so can you!

9. "Matilda"

Photo from iTunes

This score is absolutely beautiful and hearing little kids about growing up and having huge hopes and dreams really inspires me to finish college and accomplish my hopes and dreams.

10. "American Psycho"

Photo from iTunes

This cast recording is new and fun. The score includes fun 80s hits and is super techno. I personally loved it and the cast recording is something I listen to a lot to get me ready to study.

Good luck to everyone studying for finals and hope these cast recordings help with those long nights! All of the cast recordings can be found on Spotify and iTunes!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
