Ten Apps That Are Taking Over My Life

I am a college student, a free app that I can use to procrastinate with is one of my favorite things.

Being a college student, I have found that taking ten to fifteen minutes here and there to play a game or scroll through social media is okay to do. Everyones needs that little thing to break up the stress. But I have found that its hard to give these following apps only ten of fifteen minutes of my time. I have found that I tell my self "only three more scrolls" or "after I die the next time" or even "after the next ad" and then will still be playing 20 minutes later.

1. Twitter

I think almost everyone knows what twitter is, well maybe not your grandparents. Anyway, Twitter is one of my true addictions. It's honestly something that I should try to steer clear from, but everyone has that little bit of procrastination in them.

2. Snapchat

Who doesn’t love the puppy filter or the new dancing bunny filter? Snapchat is one of the things that I have a love-hate relationship with. I have moods where I will watch every single second of every single contacts Snapchat story, and I have my moods where I can’t click through them fast enough. Typically, one of those moods is right when I have homework to do, but I’ll leave the rest to you to figure out.

3. Instagram

Again, this is an app that I feel like EVERYONE knows about. Unless you’re my dad, he occasionally gets Snapchat and Instagram mixed up and will call it “Insta-chat” or “snap-gram.” But that’s beside the point. Instagram is that app that everyone is addicted to but won’t admit it.

4. Tumblr

I absolutely love scrolling through Tumblr, but honestly that’s the only thing I know how to do on that site. Notes and all the other things really just get me all confused. I truly find myself going to Tumblr on like those late nights where its 3 am and you just can’t sleep. Maybe it’s an app that fits me, maybe it’s because it’s a dark color and doesn’t hurt my eyes at 3 am, who knows?

5. StumbleUpon

Yikes. I am truly new to this app and I can honestly say that I have NO CLUE how this works. It’s like Pinterest but like Tumblr at the same time. I love it but it kind of gives me a headache at the same time because I’m not sure what to do.

6. Facebook

After my pre-teen addiction, I kind of backed off Facebook for a while. I’m not sure what it was but I felt like I had moved onto bigger and better things. Then college came and it seems like college uses Facebook ALL THE TIME. I was on the other day and really realized that everyone uses Facebook, it’s insane. When I say everyone, I mean everyone. I found my grandfather on there and I didn’t even think he understood what Facebook was two months ago. Also, if you ever want to do some heavy duty searching for embarrassing photos of someone, Facebook has your back.

7. Paper.io

My addiction to this game is truly unhealthy. I can sit and play this for HOURS. It’s like the game snake, but SO MUCH BETTER. It’s a lot more competitive than snake, but it’s one of the best games ever invented. 10/10 highly suggest downloading this, but you may play it constantly instead of doing your homework. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

8. Ballz

Ballz is another one of those addicting free games that you can download from the app store. This was mine and my friends first game addiction. It’s another pointless game but so much fun. I can definitely kill a few hours with this app.

9. 1010!

Again, another addicting game. Do you remember playing Tetris as a kid? 1010! Is basically a more modern version of Tetris and it’s just as fun. I highly suggest it.

10. Netflix

Finally, an app that plays on and on until eventually, you get the “Are you still watching?” notification from your device. I truly wonder if Netflix knows that I have at least 3 homework assignments to do and 4 exams to study for when I click yes.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
