10 Apps Every College Student MUST Download

In such a digital age, we need everything at our fingertips, including college

Okay so I've been in college for a year and a half and I think it's time I share a few of the apps you need during college.

1. Your College's App

This usually includes a bus schedule, your university account balance for meal plans etc., your semester schedule, quick links to your university login portal.

2. Blackboard

This is a no-brainer. You want to see that score for your last BIO test asap so you can fix your grade or realize your degree will not be working out for you. It is helpful to figure out your professor's office hours, email & contact info, and your class syllabus.

3. Microsoft Word

Editing documents just got 110% better. If you realize when you're re-reading that 10 page paper on Napoleon and the French Revolution that you didn't put your page numbers, it's easily accessible.

4. Your School Email App

Whether your university runs email out of Google or Microsoft, you need to know when your professor's email you because that means class could be cancelled or there's an extra credit assignment that you can do. (Extra credit in college is so worth it, if you were wondering.)

5. Venmo & CashApp

Both of these apps are designed for money transfer straight from your bank account. If you don't have either of these, how are you supposed to pay people for your discounted football tickets or your routine Chick-Fil-A trips? They're both easy to use and the money gets transferred straight into your account so you don't have to carry cash everywhere.

6. GroupMe

Everyone knows how annoying group chats are. But being a part of the group messages that you can't get out of because there's Androids and iPhones, are especially irritating. With GroupMe, you can easily leave a chat and people can remove you from the chat without having to make a new group.

7. Quizlet

Or Quiz-Lit, as I like to say. It has so many study sets for all kinds of university exams. You just have to make sure you're studying the right set for your specific class and professor, especially now since professors like to change the test materials.

8. Music Apps

I guess these could be split into a bunch of different apps, but I want to bunch them together since they really have one main focus. Music. We need music in our lives. Keep asking for recommendations from friends. I guarantee that it'll be worth it.

Pandora - Online Radio, Offers Premium subscription
Spotify - Music library, radio stations, offline and online for Premium subscriptions
Apple Music - Subscription after the first three free trial months

9. Amazon

With Amazon basically taking over everywhere, there is always a need for a decorative tapestry or a new lightbulb for your desk light when you don't feel like going off campus to your nearby Walmart of if you're lucky, Target. Plus Amazon offers a student Prime account with your student email, renewed yearly.

10. Google Drive

What did I do before Google Drive? I have no idea. This is the digital USB. You can store documents, projects, spreadsheets and photos. It is based out of a cloud system so it is an online storage account you can access from virtually everywhere. Plus, if you already have an account linked to Google (Gmail, Google Classroom, Calendar etc.) then it's even easier to access Google Drive.

I hope this list helps you out in the future, and if you don't have some of these, I highly recommend them. Most are free apps through the app stores on your respective devices.

The 5 Painfully True Stages Of Camping Out At The Library

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

28 Daily Thoughts of College Students

"I want to thank Google, Wikipedia, and whoever else invented copy and paste. Thank you."

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

As this semester wraps up, students can’t help but be stressed about finals. After all, our GPAs depends on these grades! What student isn’t worrying about their finals right now? It’s “goodbye social life, hello library” time from now until the end of finals week.

1. Finals are weeks away, I’m sure I’ll be ready for them when they come.
