The Telltale "Walking Dead" games have been out since I was in middle school. I'm in college now, so that's saying a lot. The first season specifically came out in 2012, leaving a rather strong impression on me as I watched it for the first time. I cried, like everyone else, when Lee died. I hated Lily as much as almost everyone else did and more than anything, I thought the bond between Lee and Clementine was one of the most genuine and resilient relationships ever in a video game setting.
That being said, I was more than just disappointed when I heard that the "Walking Dead" is cutting the episodes of its final season down because Telltale is continuing with its layoff of 225 people. In fact, Telltale is shutting down to the point where there will be no "Wolf Among Us" season two or "Walking Dead" episode three and four.
In terms of the layoff, many workers have reported working so industriously in the creation of the game but not being able to be paid for their efforts. Obviously, this is something that is of great concern and separate from the game, it's hard to imagine that there are everyday people operating behind the game screen.
In terms of the cut, this one hurt me a lot, because ever since middle school, I never really gave up on "Walking Dead," even when I found the plot and the constant new character introduction to be not only mundane but monotonous. It kept happening and that was the problem. You had new characters and they'd die off and the cycle continued.
I haven't watched the last episode yet, but I'm hoping that it'll be one to create an epic ending for the six years that viewers and gamers around the world have gotten to know Clementine and now AJ.
