Telling Yourself You Can

God will bring you challenges, but He will bring you through them. Life is too long to walk alone, always keep His light at the end of your tunnel.

There are so many moments in life, when you want to just quit. You want to throw your hands in the air, surrender and give up. For some reason, we are always yearning for a more simple lifestyle. One that lacks so many challenges and so many obstacles that you have to overcome. I believe we are all telling ourselves "If I can just get through this," again and again. However, are we really being so caught up in "getting through it" that we are actually missing the moment?

There are going to be days in this life full of struggles, maybe even weeks, months or years. These times are going to become more and more difficult and you will always want to run to your comfort zone and just cry. Know that on those days, it is okay to cry, just save those tears for a long prayer with the Lord and some quiet time to yourself or in the arms of your significant other. Know that when you feel you are standing alone in a pit of darkness that someone is right next to you with their hand on the door to help you see the light.

The world we live in now seems to be more and more negative, which is sad. It is also sad that many people feel they are alone, when they never truly are. I mean you have access to thousands of people through the click of a button, but it is hard to communicate when we are all constantly behind a screen. So on a day, you find yourself saying "I cannot do this, I am not _______ enough or I am so frustrated I just want to quit," step back, take a deep breath and relax. Remember, you are never alone, someone is always there. Although our different versions of "okay" may change throughout life, learn to just be happy in the moment. Worrying does not fix any problem, nerves build character, and life happens. If you make a mistake, learn from it. If you seemingly make the same mistake again, learn the intended lesson differently. Tell yourself that you can, even when you feel you cannot move one more step forward. Collect yourself, collect your thoughts and tell yourself you can; because you can and you will.

God will bring you challenges, but He will bring you through them. Life is too long to walk alone, always keep His light at the end of your tunnel.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that.
