My dad and I are two peas in a pod, so to speak. Since day one, I've been dubbed a "daddy's girl" and that title has followed me through all the into way into my adult years. Don't get me wrong, I love my mom more than life, but my dad and I have always clicked, possibly because his personality was copied and pasted directly into my gene pool like some sort of Simms montage.
I was so fortunate to be born to such an extraordinary dad, but having that same man as my best friend can get a little… interesting? Funny? Straight-out-of-HBO crazy? Probably all of the above, if we're being honest. Below are 11 different things I experience as a daddy's girl- and if you're one, you definitely know what I'm talking about, too.
1. You get in trouble together, never separately.
Mom yelling at one of you? Get ready for the other to jump into their defense, and soon enough, you're both in the doghouse.
2. There's probably a really good reason you two are in trouble.
Teaming up on your younger brother? Knocking over the vegetable display at the grocery during an intense game of tag? Spilling an entire gallon of V8 on the new carpet? Yeah, we deserve it.
3. You can watch action movies..all day long.
"Fast and Furious" and "White House Down" might just be the best films ever made. We are definitely cancelling dinner at the table for chicken wings on the couch.
4. The few times you get into fights are total armageddon moments.
Being practically the same person, you know exactly what gets under one and others' skin and all the right buttons to push. Grab the popcorn- it's about to get interesting.
5. Your mom teaches you the importance of designer bags, but your dad makes sure to teach you how to shoot.
There's a reason "a daddy's girl in her mama's world" is an all too popular song lyric. As Miley Cyrus said, it's truly the best of both worlds.
6. There are endless inside jokes.
All I have to do is look at my dad a certain way and he knows EXACTLY what I'm thinking about. Cue the laugh track.
7. You will never have a boyfriend that good enough.
I think this is the case for all daughters, but in my experience, it's 959104 times worse bringing a guy home when your dad thinks that he should be the only man in your life till you're 30.
8. Your problems are his problems.
Parents are always there to help guide us through life, but my dad makes it his personal mission to help me in any way possible. He's GI Joe until it's fixed.
9. The struggle of moving out is too much to handle.
Your dad will beg you to come home. He might start stalking you at work. He most definitely tracks your car. Would we expect anything less?
10. He thinks you're PERFECT the way you are.
I'm not talking about my personality- my dad tells me all too often that I'm too stubborn and a smart ass. I'm talking about the fact he tried to ground me when I got my cartilage pierced and told me I caused his heart attack when I got a tattoo. Thanks, Pops. Love you too.
11. You find yourself valuing his opinion a little too much.
I had to make sure my dad loved all three of my prom dresses. He reads over my resume everytime I need to update it. I need him to like my friends before I do. Oh well.
