Here are a few Ted Talks that I have helped me spark change in my life. I hope that you can apply them to yours as well. Be open to change. We are always changing for the better in life. Keep going forward.

The Power of Vulnerability

Brene Brown's Ted Talk called The Power of Vulnerability focuses on the quote "If you can't measure it, it doesn't exist." When ask people about love they often respond with stories about heartbreak. When you ask about connection they respond with stories of disconnection. In order for connection to happen we have to be seen to be really seen and to be seen we must have:

  1. Courage to be imperfectly perfect.
  2. Compassion to treat yourself kindly and with respect.
  3. Connection- as a result of authenticity. Let go of what they "should be" to be who you are.
  4. Vulnerability should be fully embraced. What makes you vulnerable makes you beautiful. The willingness to say "I love you first" the willingness to do something where there are no guarantees, the willingness to invest in a relationship that may or may not work out...

The simple cure for loneliness

Baya Voce's Ted Talk "The simple cure for loneliness" centers around the "anchor of connection" which is human contact. With the growing use of technology, face-to-face conversation and connection has taken the back burner. Too often we see people out at restaurants all on their phones. And yet we wonder why we are lonely.

Select the right relationship

When selecting the right relationship this Ted Talk by Alexandra Redcay helps us realize that love rules our mind just like a drug addiction. Why are we constantly trying to change people? There are so many opportunities out there to explore. Do we think we should settle or not good enough? Know your self worth and make sure your partner does too. Know what you want in a partner and be stubborn about the things that are important to you.

How to stop screwing yourself over

How can you stop screwing yourself over? It's simple, (but not easy): Force yourself. The word "fine" is something we use to cover up the regret and loss in our lives. Mel Robbins has three rules on how to stop screwing yourself over and to take risks:

  1. Out of your head
  2. Past your feelings
  3. Outside your comfort zone

Trust your struggle

Zain Asher says in her Ted Talk, Trust your struggle, "If you want to be successful you have to relate to all people." "No matter what the hardships are in life have faith that it will all be for the greater good" Three ways to trust your struggle:

  1. No such thing as competition- brings out fears and insecurities that hold you back
  2. Create what you want
  3. The more you give the more you receive

Self-love, be intentional

Caitlyn Roux talks about how self love impacts not only your life but the lives around you.

"Without self-love you limit the love you can give and the value you can add to others' lives."

"Living the best version of yourself inspires others to live the best version of themselves too."

The Power of Zero Tolerance

Sabelle Mercier expresses how worry holds us back in the talk The Power of Zero Tolerance.

"95% of North Americans either go to bed or wake up worrying about something"

#1 killer of creativity, performance, and dreams- WORRY

"What we tolerate we worry about"

"What do you need to do on a daily basis to feel happy, healthy, and fulfilled instead of being worried? And most importantly what the heck are you tolerating that is keeping you from doing it?"

Be your own hero a formula to remember:

H- Hush

E- Evaluate

R-Ritualize

O-Own

Become who you really are

Andrea Pennington says in her talk, Become who you really are, that "the socialization process shapes our sense of identity."This stems from ideals of parents and peers to fit in and be accepted in society. The authentic and genuine self takes a back seat to what appears to be socially accepted. Denying self-expression leads to depression. Some quotes that she discusses during her talk are:

"Often we don't realize who we're meant to be because we're so busy trying to live out someone else's ideas"-Oprah Winfrey

"No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it"-Albert Einstein

"If you're always trying to be normal, you'll never know how amazing you can be"- Maya Angelou

"It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are" -EE Cummings

"Be the change you wish to see in the world"- Mohammad Ghandi

"Be yourself. An original is always worth more than a copy."

Programming your mind for success

Carrie Green talks about three things that are barriers to programming your mind for success

1. Fear

2. Obstacles

3. Lack of Motivation

Be consciously aware of what you are thinking. We all have the power over our thoughts so replace the negative with positive self-talk. Empower yourself.

What makes you special?

Mariana Atencio in her talk, What makes you special?, claims that we are all special and that we need to embrace it by:

  1. I am different...Belonging takes work
  2. Being different is an advantage
Believe that you are special and unique. Be bold. Be you.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

eye roll

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"

While this question trend can get annoying, there are a couple of pros to having RBF.

Yify

Another day, another Elle Woods comment. Can’t us blondes get through the day without someone harping at us over the typical stereotypes about who we are? I never understood why a person was judged based upon the hair color they were born with, or the hair color they choose to have (unless you dye your hair blue like Kylie Jenner, I’m still trying to understand why that’s a trend). Nevertheless, as it should be assumed, not everyone is the same. Not all blondes like bright colors and Lilly Pulitzer, and not all blondes claim to identify with Marilyn Monroe. I think the best suggestion to give to people before they make such radical claims is to stop judging a book by its cover. Or in this case, stop judging a blonde by her hair color.
