Watching the same “classic” Christmas movies every year can get a little tiring, but it’s hard to find a good movie that isn’t too cheesy. Here are some titles that aren’t usually considered among Christmas classics like “Elf” and “It’s a Wonderful Life,” but they feature just enough holiday spirit to be technical Christmas movies.
1. Last Holiday
This one is a little obvious, and I guess it’s never technically “Christmas” in the movie. But if you want to see Queen Latifah living her fullest life on holiday while LL Cool J pines after her, this might be the right movie for you. Gives you a strong life lesson like "A Wonderful Life" does, but it's not ten years long.
2. Barbie in the Nutcracker
Oh, come on. This was a childhood classic that should be watched every year. You can get nostalgic, and it's kid-safe!
3. Mean Girls
Hey, everyone remembers the Jingle Bell Rock scene. That counts. Just watch it.
4. Iron Man 3
If you’re into superhero movies but can’t figure out how to make everyone watch one, remind them that this movie takes place over the holidays. They even play Jingle Bells.
5. Bridget Jones’s Diary
Not only is this technically a (British!) Christmas movie, but it has ugly Christmas sweaters! What else could you want? A good choice if you've worn out "Love Actually."
6. Edward Scissorhands
If you’re looking for something a little creepier, a Tim Burton movie might be perfect. One of the most iconic parts of the movie is when Edward cuts an ice sculpture while everyone is putting up Christmas decorations, creating an artificial snow. Great if you went on a "Stranger Things" binge-watch this year and need some more Winona.
7. Just Friends
Ryan Reynolds plays the lead who comes home for Christmas and tries to catch the eye of his high school crush. Perfect rom-com, especially if you’re looking for adult humor a little less subtle than "Elf."
8. Die Hard
Okay, this one had to go on the list. The whole movie is a heartwarming story of a family trying to reunite on Christmas Eve. Sort of? Plus, your parents probably love it.
(If you’ve already worn this one out, Die Hard 2 is also a technical Christmas movie!)
