Being eco-friendly is when either a product, industry, etc. is not harmful to the environment. This means that whatever is considered eco-friendly is something that hasn't harmed the environment in any way. However, just because a product is labeled as so, it does not necessarily mean it is.
In recent years, there has been a lot of attention given to environmental awareness and people are continually talking about conservation and environmental protection issues. It is the right time we focus on building a generation that is considerate to the environment and takes responsibility for their actions to care for the world.
So, in light of that, here are some simple ways that we could do help teach future generations about being eco-friendly.
1. Make a game out of recycling
Label different bins for paper, plastics and aluminum and then ask them which bin they think a piece of trash should go in, while letting them do it themselves. This could reinforce the idea that recycling can be fun.
2. Eliminating or minimizing waste
This includes teaching them that turning off the lights in their room when they aren't their and telling them how not only that it saves energy but saves money as well.
3. Spending time outside in nature
Parks and special nature hikes are not the only way to do this. One of the biggest (and best) things I can remember doing as a child is playing out in the backyard with my sister til dark or going out in the front yard on the weekends and drawing with chalk on the driveway.
4. Water
Simply showing them that reusable bottles are much better than single use plastic ones (and the water taste better too).
5. Gardening
Not only does this teach them where their food comes from, but it can give them a sense of accomplishment, eating what they grow themselves.
6. Encourage a love of animals
While this does not guarantee that they will love nature, its a good first step.
7. Biking or carpooling
Get them outside and on a bike. Or something like sharing a ride with a friend.
