When I worked with a second grade class I learned a lot about myself. I learned that I do, in fact, want to become a teacher. I always said I wanted to teach, but I didn’t know how it actually felt. Being with this class for a year showed me I actually want to become a teacher, and can do that.
I loved being a role model to them and seeing how they looked up to me. They made me really appreciate how individual people are. At 7 years old, they were already all so different and had their own persons. They reacted differently to situations and had different emotions. I saw them learn to make friendships and learn to handle disagreements.
The most important thing I learned is that you need to get to know your students on a personal level in order to know how you as a teacher can best instill knowledge in them.
