Junipero Serra of San Mateo California is one of the most prestigious high schools in the country. While the all-boys catholic institution may get their hype from the sports teams, the academics are equally as impressive. With a 100 percent college acceptance rate and an 82.7 AP pass rate, the remarkable feats are only possible because of the excellent abilities of the teachers. While all the teachers are great in their own particular way, these are the top teacher you NEED to know.

Ron DiMaggio, Mathematics

Honestly, after taking his class you’ll wish you were a bald math teacher. Probably one of the coolest guys at school, he is as equally great of a teacher. Understanding students and the classroom is key, so his empathy and great personality approach allows everyone to succeed in his class. He's also an excellent cross country coach with a money jump shot.

Robert Solari, Biology, Most Interesting man in the world

A personal favorite, Mr. Solari has high expectations for all his students and does not take excuses for underachieving. A hard grader but he’ll throw extra credit opportunities if you show true effort. Honestly the most interesting man in the world, his knowledge ranges from football deep travel and fruit flies. His kids are pretty damn cool too. When it comes to growth and knowledge he’s one of the best at his craft. Also, the classroom is an awesome environment because he allows his pet tortoise to roam the classroom.

Tom Sullivan, English

A passionate man who cares about his students even if he doesn’t directly teach them. He’ll go out his way to make you comfortable and is one of the kindest people you’ll meet. Mr. Sullivan understands that each student is under different circumstances and will even pick them up from home in order to make sure they are on time for their classes. Awesome dude and great teacher.

Mark “The Shark” Goyette, History

Man, there are really no words to describe this guy other than entertaining. He really lets the students be themselves, but also has commands enough respect from them that his classroom never gets out of hand. He’s very interested in your future aspirations and is one of the few teachers who doesn’t sugarcoat anything. Don’t get on his bad side, he’s not one to mess with.

Sean Dugoni, History, A1 Roaster

The history department is pretty cool overall, and it definitely doesn’t stop with Mr. Goyette. Mr. Dugoni is great guy and if you ever get the opportunity to learn from him, consider yourself lucky. He has an aura about him that calms the whole class down at once. A bridge between the students and faculty, Mr. Dugoni represents everything a teacher should aim to be.

Ed Taylor, Theology

It’s rare to laugh in a class and learn so much, but that is exactly what you get in Mr. Taylor’s class. A man whose journey has turned into positive wisdom is infectious throughout the entire class. Go to him about your problems, a good movie or to broaden the mind and you’ll walk away with something special.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
