Teacher, You Say?

You look down on me when I say I want to be a teacher; however, this doesn't discourage me.

Every since I was a little girl, I had bright eyes for the future and felt the need to help people if they could not understand something. I believed everyone had the ability to understand/learn, it just may take some more time and a different approach. I would walk up to the chalk board and start writing problems or letters to explain it to where I thought they could understand. If I ever understood something well enough I wanted others to understand it as well. My brothers grew up being taught things every chance I got. I wanted to teach. The power of understanding is something that money can not purchase. As I grew up this passion never stopped. Whenever someone needed help understanding something I did whatever I could to help them. I even got up in front of the classroom and would teach classes when the teacher was absent (or even present if I could explain it better than the teacher).

You can repeat the lines “Those who can do will do, and those who can’t will teach”. However, Einstein always said If you can’t teach it to a five-year-old how well do you actually understand it? Why would you want to keep the knowledge to yourself when you can teach someone else? Stop and think back to your years of school. Who was your favorite teacher? What exactly made them your favorite? I can guarantee the teacher that’s your favorite and has stuck with you all these years was the teacher that made you realize what you are capable of and taught you things outside of that book. The other teachers that played by the book, and never taught you anything besides “Subject matter”, you probably can’t even remember their names. I always feel that knowledge sticks with someone. The time you take to help someone and make them feel believed in will last in them. They won’t remember your compliments, but they will forever remember that teacher that believed in them. They will remember the teacher that showed them life in a way they never imagined. The teacher that explained why that happened, or even showed them. I want to be a teacher to make a difference.

Even if when I retire I only made a difference in one child’s life, I will be proud of myself. I’m not asking you to change the world, without doing my part. Education has became such a controversial topic and an issue because no one knows what to teach. What can be said/taught within in school systems? How can we discipline a child? To strike curiosity of knowledge in a child, will keep a child In line and out of trouble. Athletics are important, but having an understanding of how plays work is knowledge. Teach the child why it is important for the subject matter to be understood. How important it is to know things about things. My college professor always said “It is important to know things about things, for no other reason it lets you get jokes.” Teachers that stir up the thought of curiosity of different perspectives are teachers that make the education system powerful.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
