One day a new teacher, fresh out of college (we will call her Ms. J), was out and about. While she was out, she decided that she was going to go to Target and see if she could find some new things for her class room. She was looking through the many deals of the back to school sales and eventually parted from the section to go look throughout the store. She eventually walked back to the section to grab something that she second guessed herself on when a woman approached her. " Excuse me miss. Are you a teacher?" Miss J responded, "Yes, I am. It is my first year." The woman then said, "I am a teacher also. I am retiring after over 40 years of teaching." The woman then reached into her purse and pulled out some money. "I know it isn't much but please use this to buy something for your room or yourself. Teachers spend so much money on their classrooms." Miss J watched her walk away, standing there with tears in her eyes trying to hold them back.
One thing I want you to know about this story is that it is true. Miss J is a teacher that is very close to me. Miss J is my sister. She told me that an older woman walked up to her and did this and it made me proud to be studying to be a teacher.
Teachers are a very close group of people that not too many others understand. You can find teachers all over the world and there is one spectacular thing about them. They are all here and there doing there job not for tons of money, not to be famous; they are doing it because they want to see kids have a bright future. They teach because when they teach they know they are making the world a better place. Whether it is teaching kindergartners that 2+2=4 or asking high school freshman "In this chapter Atticus tells his children that 'it's a sin to kill a mockingbird'. What reason does he give for saying this?" teachers are teaching to make it possible for those kids to have the bright future that they deserve. Teachers teach because they had a teacher that made them realize that they could change the world by going to school and learning how to make kids want to learn rather then forcing them to learn.
I have said it before, and I will say it again, "You know you won't get rich being a teacher." "You could have made so much money as a businessman!!!" Well for those who say that, I say watch this.
I was taught at a young age that money is not everything. If I can make a difference in someone's life then that is more valuable than all the treasures of the world. I will be rich and I will be able to take all of my riches with me, even when my time comes. That is more than any king can say about his riches.
