It has been two years since we last heard of Taylor Swift. We all wondered what happened to our dear TSwift, where she went, and why she disappeared from the public eye.
Growing up, my first secular artist was Taylor, and I have been a loyal Swiftie ever since. I sang my heart out to every song, cried to the songs that spoke to me, but most of all I grew up alongside her and our ever changing world. All of my teen and now young adult live, every one of her songs has spoken about what I am dealing with in my life and her new song is just the same.
I have seen both positive and negative reactions to "Look What You Made Me Do", and I'm obsessed with it due to it speaking volumes about what I have dealt over the past couple years and how it has changed me into who I am today. I actually shed a tear at one part because just how close it hit to my life. Just as the title states, there is always one situation in our lives that completely change who we are and make us into someone either completely or just slightly different but does change us.
For the past couple of days, TSwift posted on Instagram about a snake which can lead to many different fan views and the meaning behind it. I believe it meaning that she is "shedding" her old self and ready to show the world the new Swift. At first, I was very weary about them, but after watching and hearing the new song I knew that is what she was meaning. The snake represents many things so this is up for the fan's point of view.
My review of this song is that everyone changes no matter if we like it or not.
"I don't like your little games; Don't like your tilted stage; The role you made me play; Of the fool, no, I don't like you; I don't like your perfect crime; How you laugh when you lie; You said the gun was mine; Isn't cool, no, I don't like you (oh!)" These lyrics are stating how a single person or situation makes all the rules, and we are puppets to them always playing right into their hand.
"But I got smarter, I got harder in the nick of time; Honey, I rose up from the dead, I do it all the time; I've got a list of names and yours is in red underlined; I check it once, then I check it twice, oh!" These are meaning that you can get out from under them no matter how tight you are attached to them. There are always a way to get away from the things that are keeping us from moving on or becoming a better person.
"Ooh, look what you made me do; Look what you made me do" You are the reason why I am the way I am now. It's all their fault for putting you through all the heartbreak and pain.
"I don't like your kingdom keys; They once belonged to me; You ask me for a place to sleep; Locked me out and threw a feast (what?)" These are talking about how they brought you into their lives without a care about you and treated you like they wanted you but in reality it was all fake.
"The world goes on, another day, another drama, drama; But not for me, not for me, all I think about is karma; And then the world moves on, but one thing's for sure; Maybe I got mine, but you'll all get yours" Everything always comes back around. They will face their crimes when the time comes.
"I don't trust nobody and nobody trusts me; I'll be the actress, starring in your bad dreams" You lost their trust making you lose trust in everyone else. You will always be a reminder to them about what they did to you even if you forgive and close that chapter.
"I'm sorry, the old Taylor can't come to the phone right now." "Why?" "Oh 'cause she's dead" speaks just how much change has happened to her over her time both in the lime light and her disappearance and that she can't go back to who she once was.
This song tells the story of to overcome the past, becoming a new person, and not caring about what they world thinks about how it all played out.
Once a Swiftie. Always a Swiftie.
