On the night of New Year's Eve, as the world celebrated the ringing in of 2016, Taylor Swift decided to go for her final fling of the year and release the music video for her single, "Out Of The Woods". At around 11 p.m. EST, the video was live and as of Jan. 2, it has over 6 million views. The song comes from her album "1989" and just like many of her other songs could possibly be about one of her past relationships.
The video opens up with the words "she lost him" following which we see Taylor Swift standing on a beach in a blue dress singing about her past lost love. This is a music video with no artist besides Swift herself which isn't a bad thing at all. The only other stars of the video are the wolves that chase her down in various locations constant that of a forest, a snowy mountain, a forest on fire and a piece of dry land with nothing visible as far as the eye can see. The video ends with the first three words "she lost him" followed by "but she found herself...and somehow that was everything" hinting that in the end it's all a worthwhile journey which is really different from all her recent videos. Where in "Blank Space" she is introduced to a new character hinting a sense of repetition, in "Bad Blood" the video ends at Taylor and Selena Gomez hitting each other and "Wildest Dreams" ends with the couple saying goodbye, this video ends up with Taylor Swift finding herself. Literally, finding herself.
A music video not only depends on how great the song sounds, the visual appeal is what counts as well. And Taylor Swift seems to know that very well. "Out Of The Woods" is a great video to look at thanks to the amazing camera work that is used for introducing the change of every terrain and captures the aesthetics of the locations along with the artist's face in a very well balanced manner. Filmed in New Zealand, the video grips the audience with all the running, jumping, and swarming in a huge pit of mud not only ruining the lovely look of Taylor but also making a hideous mess out of the lovely blue dress just to prove a point that there is a sense of struggle that she is going through with trying to let go of whatever situation that has happened.
The phrase "Out Of The Woods" occurs exactly 38 times within the song. So I really won't comment much on the lyrics except that they talk about her past with someone, are really good and definitely.... "Out Of The Woods."
