My 4 Takeaways From "Taylor Swift: Miss Americana"

Netflix just released "Taylor Swift: Miss Americana" and this is what stood out to me.

My 4 Takeaways From "Taylor Swift: Miss Americana"

1.) Taylor Swift is talented and intelligent

Perhaps the most obvious message from the movie is how Taylor Swift is a musical genius. Starting her career at the young age of thirteen, Taylor has been at the head of the popular music industry for over fifteen years. Besides her indisputable musical talent, Taylor has very thoughtful takes on her own lifestyle and that of celebrities. Interviews with Taylor narrate the entire film. She describes her political views, her beliefs, and her experiences in a very eloquent and articulate way.

2.) Taylor has a twisted view of her own reputation.

A central idea of the Netflix film was Taylor reinventing herself through defining her political stance and standing up for her beliefs and, hence, building a negative public reputation. I thought that this was a rather weak premise on which to build an entire movie because she really doesn't have a negative reputation for most people; at least, no more than any other Hollywood celebrity.

3.) Taylor and her boyfriend are endgame

Although his identity was kept anonymous in the documentary, Taylor's beau, Joe Alwyn, seems to have made a major impact on Taylor's life. She describes how her relationship with Alwyn has benefitted her and changed her for the better. Some fans even speculate that the couple are now engaged.

4.) What is the purpose of the documentary?

Throughout watching the film, I found myself wondering why it was produced. There was nothing really substantial; nothing in the documentary really differentiates Taylor from other celebrities. Her struggles (publicity, politics, relationships with other celebrities) aren't particularly unique. I will say one thing: watching the movie really made me want to listen to her music. As a viewer I could appreciate the hard work and effort that went into song writing. Perhaps the film was a strategic way to give her music more publicity and attention.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!

There is nothing quite like family.

Family is kinda like that one ex that you always find yourself running back to (except without all the regret and the angsty breakup texts that come along with it).

No matter how long your class is, there's always time for the mind to wander. Much like taking a shower or trying to fall asleep, sitting in a classroom can be a time when you get some of your best ideas. But, more than likely, you're probably just trying to mentally cope with listening to a boring lecturer drone on and on. Perhaps some of the following Aristotle-esque thoughts have popped into your head during class.

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.
