Back in 2006 I remember getting Taylor Swift’s first album and repeatedly playing it on my purple CD player. My friends would come over and we would use the little pamphlet in the front of the CD case to read the lyrics and sing along. Now, I pre-order her albums on iTunes and download it onto every device I have so that I can listen to her everywhere. For those of us who remember when Taylor’s first album came out, it’s hard to imagine that she’s been making music for over 10 years. She started out as a country singer and has completely changed tracks by singing almost all pop. But her music is not the only thing that’s changed. Let’s take a look at how the legendary T-Swift has evolved over the past few years.
Album 1: "Taylor Swift" 2006.
Genre: Country, Pop, Rock, Blues.
Sweet, small town country girl. Crazy, beautiful curly hair. If you didn’t belt the lyrics to “Teardrops on My Guitar” and think about your sixth grade crush who never noticed you, did you even listen to the album?
Album 2: "Sounds of the Season" 2007.
Genre: Country, Pop.
It’s been a year, and Taylor has made her mark on the musical world. So she had to do what every other successful artist does -- make a holiday album, duh.
Album 3: "Fearless" 2009.
Genre: Country, Pop, Rock, Blues.
At this point, Taylor’s music is still mostly country. I will never not regret singing “Love Story” over and over. And over. Don’t worry, she’s still got those curls.
Album 4: "Speak Now" 2010.
Genre: Country, Pop, Rock
Taylor’s still got that country vibe, but after listening to the album again, you can hear that it’s a little less country than her previous albums. Her flowing, purple, gorgeous gown was something every girl dreamed of wearing.
Album 5: "Red" 2012.
Genre: Pop, Country, Rock, Alternative, Electronic, Ethnic/Folk.
This album marks the beginning of Taylor’s transition from country to pop. This transition can clearly be seen by Taylor’s new look. The curls are gone, and we see a more grown up version of Taylor as she mysteriously looks off at who knows what. Of all the songs on this album, the two most memorable ones are probably “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” and “22.”
Album 6: "1989" 2014.
Genre: Pop, R&B.
All of Taylor’s music is pop, and even though it isn’t like her original music, it’s still fabulous. We only get a glimpse of her on the "1989" album, but we all know she’s different. Whenever she’s not on the road or in the air traveling from her NYC apartment to her world tour, she can be seen sporting short hair and carrying her cat, Meredith. Waiting for the next album like...
WHo is this and where did Taylor Swift go? I was very shocked by this drastic change in everything, but like everything else, Taylor Swift pulls it off. I wonder what this next album is going to sound like. Whatever it is, it'll be great.
