This morning, I woke up to several post notifications from Instagram. I shocked to see they were all for Taylor Swift.
Taylor took to Instagram this morning to announce the release of her 9th studio album "evermore."
Swift has declared that "evermore" is the sister record to "folklore," Swift's latest Grammy-nominated album. The new album contains fifteen tracks, plus two bonuses on the deluxe version, including duets with Haim, Bon Iver, and The Nationals. The announcement of this album comes with a music video for "willow," which is the first track on the new album. This all comes on the heels of much speculation over the last few days.
With Swift's 31st birthday in just 3 days, fans were expecting something. No speculation came close to the release of this masterpiece.
Many thought that a new music video and single from folklore, or a re-release of an old favorite were the likely options, especially after we got to hear a snippet of a re-recorded "Love Story" in Ryan Reynold's ad for match.com. However, looking back, I am sure we can see "evermore" in a few Easter eggs. Fans were speculating about the nine tree emojis that Swift used on Twitter in her tweet thanking the "L.A. Times" for her place on their albums of the year list. Some thought that the emojis and date paired with her being styled by Stella McCartney meant that Swift had a part in Paul McCartney's new album. Stella McCartney is also the designer of the coat that Swift is wearing in the "evermore" rollout, and we now see that the symbolism of the number nine hints at her ninth album. I have to say that the possibly most widely misinterpreted hint was this Instagram post.
Many knew this was a hint at something big, but the interpretations were all wrong, including my own.
This post mirrors this one that was originally thought to simply be talking about quarantine. It was actually made while she was in the depths of writing folklore.
I know that Swifties are absolutely ecstatic at this unveiling.
Before "folklore," Swift released a new album roughly every two years. Not only is "evermore" her second released album in less than five months, but it's also the second in a row to be announced the day of its release.
Swift's new frontier has worked well for her thus far, sending Swifties into excitement.
I know I can't wait to cry to that Bon Iver track and see what else I'll be feeling as I listen to my Christmas present from my idol. Plus, it will be the best distraction as I study for my last final.
