If I qualify for the job, how come my tattoos don't?

When it comes to tattoos and piercings, any sort of body modification, many people have different opinions. Some being reasonable, some not so much. For one, I have quite a few tattoos and I know my parents aren't happy about it. I understand the reasons for them being unhappy about it as well, but as a 21-year-old, I do have the own rights to my body and the choices I choose to make with it. People like to say tattoos are trashy, unprofessional, even degrading, but for what reason? How come a couple of few small tattoos on my arms can prevent me from getting a job that I'm beyond qualified for?

It's ridiculous, tattoos are no longer a "taboo," tattoos don't make anyone less intelligent or unprofessional. Tattoos are art, they're personal, and they aren't that big of a f*****g deal. Not hiring someone simply because they have some ink is extremely biased and ridiculous.

I'm going to graduate with an English degree this upcoming May and I have 9 tattoos, some that can be hidden and some that are pretty out in the open. I would consider myself an extremely hard worker and I believe I have the characteristics and skills that would qualify for the field of work I would like to go into. Is there a possibility that I may not get a job because of ink on my skin, absolutely. Is that fair? Absolutely not. Stop discriminating people with tattoos from the workplace, simply because of their tattoos. I shouldn't be told, "oh I love your tattoos, but, you might not be able to get a job." I shouldn't feel as if I'm not worthy of my talents or hard work simply because I have a few spots of ink on me that for some reason, throw people off.

Get over it, tattoos shouldn't offend you (to a certain extent, obviously). Tattoos shouldn't make my hard work and characteristics ignorable and nonexistent. For anything really, tattoos shouldn't bother you that much, there are way worse things to be offended by. I mean, look at our Republican candidate, worry about that. Don't worry about me looking "unprofessional" for the ink on my skin and don't tell me I'm going to regret it when I'm older and I'm going to look tacky in my wedding dress. I love that I have the choice to do what I like with my body, and if that means tattoos, then that is what I choose to do. My future career shouldn't depend on that.

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
