Know Your Meme

A new year, a new meme. Or new memes.

So far, my favorite meme of the year is the "What in Tarnation?" meme. If you don't know what that is because you've been living under a craggy boulder ("rock" is overused), it all began with a man looking at his tablet at farmersonly.com, captioned "wot n ternation". Then a dog wearing a hat, captioned "What in tarnation?" became a particularly well-loved form of the meme. And then, people on the internet found it so amusing (and rightly so) that they began making puns with it and putting cowboy hats on various objects. Anyway, here are what I believe to be the top ten of those memes.

10. What in Tarnation? (Original)

Ah, the meme where it all began. Bless the creator of this meme. It's so weird in the best ways. Just look at his expression!

9. What in Correlation?

I love the blend of the serious chart and the humorous meme and cowboy hat.

8. What in Fire Nation?

From Avatar: The Last Airbender. Pretty much my favorite show. If you haven't seen it, go watch it. Anyway, I particularly like this one because this guy's mouth is in such a perfect "o" shape that it really looks like he's saying "wot".

7. What in Formation?

SLAY QUEEN SLAY. But seriously this is just perfect because I guess she just happened to be wearing a cowboy hat (it doesn't look photoshopped). Also for those of you who don't know she has a song called Formation. So yeah.

6. What in Deflation?

HAH it's always great to joke about cheating in professional football, amirite?

5. WHAT IN FILTRATION

Something about this one is so absurd. But that cowboy hat fits pretty well on that water jug, if I do say so myself.

4. What in MLA Citation?

Again, a lovely mixture of seriousness and humor.

3. What in Imagination?

I love this one because it works so well in the context of this Spongebob episode. Also I commend whoever photoshopped that hat onto Squidward's head. I tip my hat to you, sir/madam.

2. Tarnation What inThis is beautiful because apparently someone came across a Yoda with a cowboy hat on (or put it on him his/herself) in some hat store (or something of the like), and then not only made it into a meme, but thought to scramble the words to fit how Yoda actually speaks. Amazing. 10/10 for thoughtfulness.

1. What in Standard Deviation?

YES I just love this one so much. The hat fits on the bump beautifully and this is so nerdy and beauteous and I love it.

Hope you appreciated this gallery of "What in tarnation?" memes (What in appreciation? I'm sorry, I had to). May this year turn out many more great memes.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

19 Lessons I'll Never Forget from Growing Up In a Small Town

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
