Clubs And Groups At Tarleton

Whether you're a freshman, transfer, or returning student, it can be hard to put yourself out there and make new friends. One of the best ways to find people with similar interest is to join a student organization. Here are a few of Tarleton's groups and clubs to consider joining!

Greek Life

There are a ton of different sororities, fraternities, and honor societies at Tarleton! One walk past the library will show you how many options you have. Do a little research to see which one would be best for you!

African Student Organization

This club is dedicated to "creating, promoting and supporting the African culture, ethics and awareness on Tarleton campus." If you'd like to learn more about your heritage and make lifelong friends all at once, this is the group for you! If you're interested in multiple cultures, consider the Minority Student Leaders!

Theatre

For the performer or techie inside, this is perfect. Theatre is full of creative people, and they tend to know how being an outcast feels. Join this group of welcoming and exuberant people to step out of your comfort zone and learn more about yourself while making amazing friends!

Divine Hype Squad

This group of talented leaders spreads spirit and enthusiasm as a step team! How cool is that?! They have auditions at the start of each semester, require a 2.0 GPA from full-time students, and are open to any gender. Start practicing now!

Gay-Straight Alliance

Speaking of any gender, this group accepts everyone for who they are. The GSA hosts many campus events and several faculty members are involved or are sponsors. This group is guaranteed to make you feel welcome and accepted, no matter your identity. If gender equality is more your interest, there's also an official chapter of the American Association of University Women!

Tarleton Quidditch

This group of Potterheads holds weekly Quidditch practice (don't worry, it's muggle friendly. No magic required!) and bimonthly meetings. They also host and participate in campus and community events, so there's something for every schedule! Earn house points, catch the snitch, and find your Golden Trio! If you're interested in other aspects of nerd culture, try Anime Club, Math Club, or Tabletop Gaming Club!

Student Government

The student government at Tarleton has an executive branch, two legislative bodies, and a voice that is heard by Tarleton officials. If you want to make a school-wide difference and help institute change, look no further!

Baptist Student Ministry

"We are a group of students that try to love Jesus and love people." It's that easy! The BSM has pancake fundraisers, weekly free lunch, and other events! If your beliefs don't line up, there's also the Catholic Campus Ministry and Secular Student Alliance.

Disabilities Organization

This group is all about support and creating change both on campus and in the community. They also help raise awareness for all kinds of disabilities. These friends support each other not just in meetings, but throughout college. Join today!

Kinesiology Fitness Club

This group of students is dedicated to health and staying active. They have meetings, trash pick-ups, and group outings. Birds of a feather workout together! If your interests are a bit more specific, try the Mixed Martial Arts Association or Climbing Club!

If you didn't see anything that interests you here, don't worry! There are hundreds of groups I had no room for. Check out OrgSync for all of your options. If there still isn't something out there for you, maybe it's time to start a new club!

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
