I assume most of ya'll could agree that no matter how much we accomplish in a day, we nearly always feel a little guilt over what we didn't do. As a college student, this feeling is more common than usual. I am constantly either running behind on homework or worrying about an upcoming test. There are thoughts running through my head all day, and prioritizing these thoughts can become a challenge. But do we really have more to do than everyone else?
Our society is much different than the past. With phones, social media, and "read" receipts- we feel the need to respond. We are always feeling the burden of responding to people through email, tweets, texts, and messages we receive. This cycle of everyone else sets priorities for our days rather than us directing our own lives. This leads us to procrastinate and put off important priorities for later while we tend to do the stuff we feel is more "urgent" right now.
Learning to tame my to-do list has been challenging. Facing procrastination isn't easy! It was an area in my life that greatly needed strengthened (still doing so). Identifying the reasons for my procrastination definitely helped. Instead of lying to teachers or coworkers on why I couldn't get to something on time, I learned that facing the truth head on was most effective. I started implementing smart strategies into my everyday life such as journaling, planning, and staying up to date with how often I was responding to unnecessary people. I feel more equipped and empowered to complete tasks that are mine to complete.
